Yes, my son and a couple of others have been accepted.
My daughter has not yet been accepted should we be worried? Do all acceptances come at once?
We are still waiting to hear for engineering. Oos. 4.25W. 3.96 UW. 33 Act. We know other engineering applicants have been accepted so we are afraid our kiddo isnât getting accepted. Does anyone have any insight into how they sort the applications and send out notifications?
Hey All,
I posted a specific thread for this as well, but if anyone is interested in taking over the Forum Champion role for the Penn State page, please reach out to @CC_Sorin so that you can apply. I resigned the position as of a few days ago. You should be an active participant here (for several years, preferably) and have given accurate information. Sorin will reach out to me after he has options to vet the candidates based on what Iâve experienced here. Please be aware that this is a fully volunteer position.
My last Penn Stater will graduate this May, and after having been here for 10 years helping students, I think itâs time for me to pass the baton to someone else. Feel free to PM me if you have questions about the role or reach out directly to Sorin.
No, there are a lot of people who have not heard yet. Some majors seem to have heard more than others (I know a lot of DUS have not heard yet), but I am sure there will be more acceptances for UP fall in all majors before Christmas. There will also be summer acceptances and 2+2, but there will be UP fall acceptances until the end, also, based on previous years.
I think there will still be more acceptances for all majors by 12/24. Although engineering ones were the first to start hearing, Iâm sure there will be more, based on previous years. If you look at last yearâs thread, people were accepted to engineering 12/5, 12/6, 12/13, 12/14⊠good luck!
Any acceptances for premed majors yet?
A sidenote regarding the premed major: not sure why Penn State keeps it, because med schools want to see studentsâ ability to handle a regular major (like Biochemistry, Spanish, Math, Womenâs studies, Physics, or Music) AND pre-reqs, so that such a âpremedâ major is seen as a shortcut and inability to handle indepth studies. As a result, actual admission results with med schools are among the worst of all majors.
So, if admitted for âpremedâ in Eberly, you would do well to switch to a regular Eberly major - something related to Chemistry or Biochemistry would probably cover the most premed pre-reqs if you seek a traditional major with prerequisites overlap.
For the record, the classes youâll need to take as premed pre-reqs are
Calculus1 (Math 140B), Biostats, General Biology 1&2 with lab, General Chemistry1&2 with lab 1&2, Organic Chemistry1&2, CAS100, English 15 or 30, English 202 (writing for science), Algebra based Physics 1&2, Spanish for Health professionals (and probably College Spanish 003 before that), Sociology, Psychology, a diversity-focused course, Neuroscience or Cognitive Science, and BioEthics.
Most of these meet Gen Ed requirements and some meet major-related requirements but, because med school is like drinking from a firehose, med schools want to make sure you can handle full course loads and do very well in your courses. The exception to this expectation is first semester, where a course load of General Chemistry, Math, English, and either Psych or Soc, plus the 1-credit Freshman (Methods) seminar would be considered plenty. Some freshmen attempt to add Gen Bio to that courseload and promptly sink their GPA so no matter what, avoid being one of them
Has anyone gotten a decision for biomedical engineering?
My son was accepted to biomedical engineering a few weeks ago.
Has anyone gotten an Economics decision?
really? when did he apply? i applied quite late and just now got a message that my application is being reviewed
Yes. He applied 10/20. In-state. Got accepted on 11/06 into Biomedical Engineering for Fall 2025 at University Park. Test score reported. As many people say, there is still time for decisions to be announced. Good luck.
@MYOS1634 thank you for your reply. Weâve looked at all of the Communications related majors available at UP. Would applying to Communication Arts & Sciences (BA/BS) in CLA better her chances than as a Media Studies major within Bellisario? She is interested in culture/fashion media vs advertising/journalism/film.
Wait till you hear back for sure. 3 weeks to go
If sheâs offered 2+2, ask for reconsideration for Communication BA in CLA (she can switch at the end of first semester or add a Bellisario minor).
She can easily pivot back to Media Studies at the end of first semester if she registers for and has As or Bs in Comm100, Cas 100, English 15 or 30 (she would also take a world language course at the appropriate level and a Gen Ed science class or a Psychology class).
My son heard a few weeks ago. did smeal pre major finance
Hi yall! I have a 3.6 uw, a 4.86 w (as of the middle of my sophomore year), and a 1350 SAT score (650- english, 700- math). However, I kinda moved countries in my sophomore year and where I moved from, I had to attend online school my entire ninth grade which messed up my cumulative gpa. AND im pretty dumb and forgot to mention that on my additional information section lol. These are my ecs as I listed them on the common app -

I have opted to major in Data Sciences - Statistical Modeling Data Sciences. I think my common essay was good, but my supplemental essay was kinda generic when I read it again after a while. Also my cumulative is pretty bad lol (3.2) cause of the online school i mentioned earlier. I also opted for abington as my alt campus. Can anyone please help me out and tell me what they think abt my chances? Im kinda worried cause some of the people who have applied who I knew have heard back. Also, Im out of state and moved to the US in the middle of my soph year (not sure if i said that earlier, so excuse me for repeating if i have!).
Thank you!!
Essays and activities hardly count - #1 factor is GPA and rigor: have you taken Precalculus honors/AP or Calculus honors/AP? Other math classes? Bio, chem, physics? How many honors/AP/DE classes did you take, total?
2/3 decision is GPAĂrigor, 1/3 is test scores, activities, essays all together.
3.2 cumulative unweighted GPA is likely to result in a branch campus especially if you didnât check summer.
If youâre fine with 2+2 at Abington (are you in NJ?) no problem. Otherwise, if âbranchedâ, you can ask for reconsideration with Applied Data Science in IST+ Summer (do not check Fall at all - keeping in mind your parents must be able to pay for Summer, and itâs not cheap), still checking Abington as your branch campus, and see.
I have a related questionâŠmy daughter is still waiting on a decision but applied into the Advertising major in Communications (said sheâd be willing to do summer start already). Looks like from some of the previous comments it is a more selective major which we didnât realize when she applied! So frustrating. Its good to know we can request reconsideration under a different major if she doesnât get University Park. Do you know how a Political Science major would compare in selectivity - easier to get into than Advertising? She is taking AP Gov now and has an A in the class. Also, would she simply send an email to admissions@psu.edu and say she would like to request it? And then would go back into the rolling pool so could be a while before she hears back? She wont do anything until she gets a decision obviously but wants to make sure she has a clear next step in case she doesnt get UP! Thank you for your help!
Hii! I took 7 aps and 2 honors, which is not a lot cause my school didnt let me take any when i first moved here. I took 2aps and 1 honors in junior year and im taking 1 honors and 5aps in 12th grade atm. I took APUSH, ap stats, ap calc ab, apes, ap macro, ap csp, and am going to take ap gov next semester. I took 2 honors classes - honors physics and honors astronomy. Also, I checked in the summer option and if I get into abington, im hoping that i can maybe transfer before 2 years, that is, if i maintain a good gpa. Also, im not from New Jersey. And as for tuition, is it more expensive during the summer?
