Hello all. What are the prospects for an OOS (Illinois, NW Suburbs big school) with a psychology major applying EA? D has a 3.71 UWGPA with a 4.53 WGPA. 6APs (including AP Psych this semester and AP Computer Science) and 7 Honors courses. AP Calc A-B, AP English last two years. Pretty solid essays. 4 year athlete with club leadership and good community service. She is applying TO. Thank you for any input.
Any Engineering TO acceptances?
Thank you for all of this info and congratulations to those who have heard back! My son was able to log on to Lionpath and was accepted to DUS for the fall!! In-state, TO, Ugpa:3.9, Wgpa:4.4 many honors classes, 2 AP classes(HS doesnât have many options) and dual enrollment in local college classes. 3 sport varsity athlete, several clubs, community service through our church and sister is a sophomore. For people looking at this next year, he received an email with an invite to apply to Shreyerâs about six weeks ago but not sure if they send that to everyone.
Admitted DUS UP fall 25. OOS. 4.2w gpa/ 31 ACT. Checked lionpath - thanks for the help with that!
My D got accepted to nursing last year on 12/4. If I recall correctly, she was in the first batch. Good luck!
My daughter tonight as well ! DUS changed from smeal
Thanks to all the fantastic advice here
Looking for guidance/input on a couple of items:
-
Should my daughter consider contacting Admissions to reclassify her application now before she gets a decision to go from Smeal to DUS. Main reason we are considering this is if she doesnât have a very strong shot for DUS on the second pass thinking she should go DUS on the first pass to give her a second shot at another major such as something in Liberal Arts or School of Communications. We donât think she has the strongest shot at getting into Smeal, but we were encouraged to apply for it by her Admissions Officer if that is where she intended to study/pursue.

If she goes the path of another major/school instead of DUS is it possible to switch back into DUS early on perhaps after fall or spring of Freshman year and preserve the chance of eventually getting into Smeal? Two options that seem to interest her are Labor and Human Resources within the college of Liberal Arts and Media Studies or Telecommunications and Media Industries within the School of Communications.
Here are her stats/profile:
OOS, 3.76 Weighted GPA(her school doesnât calculate unweighted but my guess is it is around 3.6) 3 APs, 8 Honors. She attends a small private high school and there were less opportunities for APs. ECs are decent: Best ones are Editor of High School Yearbook, Unpaid internship in Supply Chain at a Fortune 100 company, Camp counselor at a sleep away camp and has volunteer hours through the local Penn State alumni chapterâs philanthropy which raises funds for Penn State Dance Marathon.
If we donât switch the major, do you think she has a strong shot at DUS or would you go for one of the alternates I listed above?
I appreciate any advice!
A couple other quick items I forgot to mention: she applied Summer session and has 2 languages (one with 3 years and the other with 2 years).
Sheâll be fine
Havenât seen any. Waiting on the same
Does anyone know if those that are accepted with required summer session, particularly DUS, tend to find out later than those accepted for Fall? For example, is an EA application set aside if determined a no for Fall and then reconsidered in a summer batch later or does it seem the application get one look and the decision, whatever it is, gets sent out? Thank for any insights!
My son is still waiting, applied political science, out of state. Yesterday he had the Schreyer Honors College Application button on the application portal. It is no longer there this morning. His TO button is still there. Has anyone had this happen to them?
Accepted DUS-University Park OOS 4.1W
2 AP and 2 Honors junior year and 3 AP and 1
Honors senior year. 34 ACT. Some EC.
Same - SHC button is gone but TO is still there.
It sounds like the reason for its disappearance is that the deadline to apply has passed (it was Dec 2nd).
Okay that make sense. Thanks for posting this information!
i got an email saying that there was an update to my application but when I went to my portal it said thisâŠ
Sorry, we are unable to retrieve your application details. Please check back later as we are working to resolve this issue.
Same with me, wondering what this means. Logged into Lionpath and see links for Undergraduate Decision Email and Undergraduate Admit, but not able to access them.
glad i am not alone. Hopefully this will be resolved asap.
Based on her stats, her odds of getting into Smeal (premajor) are slim and odds of getting Smeal premajor at a branch campus are high. But if she switches now to DUS, her application will be put to the bottom of the pile and she probably wonât hear till January (but summer+DUS are very likely).
So it all depends on whether she would rather potentially hear bad news quickly so she can pivot immediately, or would rather not take the chance, switch, and wait a few weeks longer. I know this period is very trying and only she/you would know whatâs easiest to handle.
