Penn State Early Action for Fall 2025 Admissions

Call ASAP to ask. :sweat_smile::crossed_fingers:

If TO, Admissions to Engineering really need to do a deep dive to know the quality of the math background - unless the student has some other external evidence of readiness, such as an AP score, a community college dual enrollment grade… So it stands to reason these applications would take more time.

There was a big discussion in the Spring (with a White Paper and all) about TO students applying to Engineering (as well as Eberly and Mineral Science) because that’s where TO applicants’ first semester/year GPA differed most from non TO applicants.

Sapphire is limited to rising freshman Smeal premajors so they need to be admitted first. The application process is not up yet but should be once the EA decisions have been sent. You can look up PSU Smeal Sapphire and email them for details

In the EA round, you can get admitted to Fall UP, Summer UP, or a branch campus.
If you don’t like the branch campus option you were offered, you can ask to change (especially if you got a commuter campus and want a real campus, ie., Behrend, Altoona, Harrisburg)
or ask for reconsideration, I’ve., a second review for another major, checking both Fall and Summer if you can afford Summer, just Summer if you want to hear faster and can afford it, or just Fall if Summer is not an option.

When did you see your TO disappear?

I went to lionpath first and then checked the portal and it was gone like about a few minutes ago.

Lionpath is the student portal. Parents of students can also use it. It is where you schedule classes, see grades etc.

If you ask for reconsideration for another major, can you also ask to be reviewed as TO (if test score was initially submitted)?

My D25 has already been accepted to UP Fall but a friend of hers still hadn’t heard back. Her friend applied for liberal arts psych, TO, OOS & 3.7 GPA. What do you think the chances are? Is psych a competitive major?

For those logging into lionpath, do you have to do it twice? First login screen appears (looks similar to the portal login) but then it goes to a different screen and says incorrect login/password and then says ā€œaccess account idā€ screen and log in again and then it says not authorized?

Yes same thing here. It’s been like that for a week or so that I noticed at least.

You can’t get into Lion Path unless you have been admitted.

The randomness of this is insane. But, making me think. My daughter has 3.9 W GPA, good ECs, 1280 SAT. Chem major. Fair number of APs. Submitted the test score but now I’m wondering if she should change to TO?

You will absolutely know when you get into lionpath. A whole screen about electronic access comes up that you have to accept. The night my daughter found out I actually just randomly logged into Lionpath at 6:45 and the screen showed up so we knew a decision had been made. (Took about 15 min for the letter to show up in Communications from there)

You should find out something by Dec 24 - Admitted Fall, Summer or 2+2 or possibly even deferred to January (which happened last year due to sheer number of applications)

I’d leave it. I think she’s good for the college of science. I think that SAT helps. My son got into College of IST with 1230. Depends more on Unweighted GPA and rigor.

Not sure about Chem but my daughter’s friends are still waiting on Bio. I know that Bio usually comes out closer to the deadline so maybe Chem does too (both Eberly)?
