Penn State Early Action for Fall 2025 Admissions

Look, what you’re saying is logical, but human brain doesn’t work like that (at least not mine).
The constant anticipation is mind boggling.
I’m the same person who’s not frustrated by several other colleges who’ve promised a decision months later than PSU.
The difference? There doesn’t seem to be much rhyme and reason to how PSU is releasing decisions in batches.
The fact that longer is takes to get a decision, the more difficult it may be to get your preferred major is something that cannot be ruled out.
PSU could have been a little more transparent in how they operate.

Similar situation here. Waiting and waiting.

For those of us still waiting…do the reconsideration requests from those that have already heard, get responses before all the EA’s are even out? Or does every EA at least get a first look before they look at reconsideration requests? It would seem highly unfair for the kids that applied very early and still haven’t heard, to then be delayed further because they are looking at reconsiderations, not to mention potentially take spots in another major. Not much of this has made sense so far, so I’d figured I’d ask. Ty!

Sounds like reconsideration requests are getting responses in days/weeks on a “rolling” basis, while rest of us wait until the promised date of 12/24, hoping to not be deferred to Jan at that point.

has anyone gotten there reconsiderations back already?

I’ve read quite a few responses on this thread where folks have received quick decisions on their review requests.

sorry one more question will reconsideration appear in my penn state and lion path or just one or the other

I believe your requested major/college will be immediately updated in the application portal. And then you wait for a decision.

anyone have a successful reconsideration yet?

I agree. Daily checking at 7pm for Test option to disappear seems to get on nerves after a while. They should be more streamlined and release decisions in batches on pre listed days. My kid had applied to PSU and UPitt on the same day, Oct 2. He got accepted to Pitt Engineering more a month back and has lost interest in PSU for which he was more interested at first. Of all the colleges, PSU hardly sends out any communication emails while we receive lot of emails on application process, FAFSA, Visit days, another information emails on a routine basis from most other colleges. We just had email acknowledging receipt and setting up account from PSU. if not for this forum, we would be blind to the whole process. Ohio State- another big school is more communicative to applicants for comparison. For OOS applicants, this whole process is not helpful.

And you may have been better off… Then you wouldn’t think it odd that you haven’t heard despite them telling you that you would hear by December 24th (unlike Pitt which does rolling admissions).

I get it, waiting and handling uncertainty is stressful, but it is also a key life skill it would be nice if parents could model for their kids…

Thank you for your thoughtful and kind responses. Going to go ahead with the reconsideration request for Human Development. We are OOS and Altoona campus just doesn’t make sense for my daughter so very much hoping that this works. Would even be thrilled with a summer start. Everything happens for a reason, so let’s see where this goes.

The process can be anxiety inducing but at least that’s one thing you don’t have to worry about: this only applies to students who apply in January and later. No major is “full” in the EA rounds - and Priority is just that, priority. :hugs:

Very curious if the 6-8 week timeframe they give is accurate. My fingers are crossed for all the reconsiderations!

Human Development&Family studies + Summer =:crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

Branch campuses don’t really make sense for OOS applicants so I get why she’d want to be at UP.

Have you visited yet? It’s an overwhelmingly huge campus.
Fortunately HHD is a smaller college and LEAP (the special summer program for freshmen) really helps. All students who did LEAP rave about it.
In fact @jlhpsu’s daughter had been admitted for Fall and requested Summer because it’s so helpful - you take 2 classes in
small groups so you make friends easily, the classes that may be weedout during the year are on the contrary more supportive, your LEAP guide shows you around, you get to figure things out about college before everyone else arrives, and when Fall rolls around you’re ready to hit the ground running with a huge advance compared to other freshmen who usually need a few weeks to get used to the size, the pace, the expectations, the freedom…

If HDFS+Summer doesn’t work, it really means they figured, with their models, that her profile would not have been set up for success. :frowning:
Almost all kids end up very happy where they attend college - even if it rightly felt like a disaster to them when they didn’t get into their top choice. :hugs:
Hopefully she has backups she likes and this strategy may well work for her :grinning::crossed_fingers:

I really hope so, but I’m not really sure how can they ensure that particularly if:-

  1. They are receiving record-breaking number of applications.
  2. Making decisions on-the-go, regardless of pre-sorting based on GPA / Rigor/ Test Scores
  3. There must be a limited number of students they can admit for competitive majors

yeah i’ve heard they ppl have been getting them really soon so who knows

I believe at the top of the page for the reconsideration requests it said that they would be going through the Early Action applications first. I can’t double check that because we have paid the deposit for my son to commit to Penn State, so we no longer see a request for reconsideration option.

I haven’t seen any responses to reconsiderations for this year yet. Just people on here asking about how to do it.
