Penn State Early Action for Fall 2025 Admissions

Have you taken exams such as A Levels, Abitur, bac, IB…?

Nope.

It wouldn’t make sense to attend a branch campus from OOS - there are always equally good public colleges in your state (in most states with several colleges) for a lower cost.

I’m sorry, I’m not sure, I would say 50-50 which is of zero help to you :pensive:
It will probably depend on how strong they know the school to be. I wouldn’t be pessimistic necessarily, especially if she’s okay with DUS Summer.

Till 10th, I’ve studied in CBSE Board.
Subjects:
MPC: math, physics and chemistry. Others: 2nd language and English.

For 11th&12th, I’ve taken state board.
Subjects:
MEC: math, eco and commerce & accountancy. Others: English and French.

So, you’ll just follow the curriculum I listed for the 1st year. :grinning:
The World Language requirement will likely be waived if you studied in another language and took exams in it. Or you can take that opportunity to continue with your 2nd language or start a new language you’re interested in.

Nah bruh, I don’t want to study any more languages . I hate studying for languages other than English.

DUS and Communication Disorders are more competitive than Education.
Human Development&Family Science may be a good major for reconsideration - it’s consistent with her previous choice and it’s less requested than other majors, so I suppose it’s her best bet.

It’s a pretty top private school in Atlanta but it’s small (graduating class is 70) so I’m not sure how well versed they are. I’d say the top 15% in her class go to Top 20 and Ivies. If we end up having to go and have them take a second look, any advice and programs to consider? She’d be most interested in Liberal Arts for either Labor and Human Resources, Psychology or maybe Economics. There were also a couple of programs in the school of Communications that caught her interest as well.

One other question, let’s say she got into a major in Liberal Arts. How easy is it for her to switch to DUS once she is there if she wanted to continue to try and pursue Smeal?

If top students get into Ivies the school profile must be well-done. As a result, they’ll have a good indication of rigor across the board.
If she gets into, say, LHR, she would need to take classes that “cross over” and count for either major, iow: English 15/30H, Econ 102, Psy 100, Stats 200, World Language 002. If she gets As/Bs, she would have a GPA that keeps Smeal in the picture so she can switch to DUS at the end of Fall semester when she meets with her adviser, then in the Spring she takes typical Smeal premajor classes (calc, Econ 104, World language 003, CAS 100, a science gen ed). Fall Sophomore year if she has a 3.2+ GPA with premajor classes mostly completed by Spring, she can think of a pivot to Smeal.
(If she took AP Stats or AP Econ and got 4-5 she can get credit for that).

google “Penn State entrance to major Finance” and you will see the courses prescribed. They don’t just throw you to the wolves. (well, they might, but they will tell you first if you read what the emails say). There is a foreign language requirement for business, so bruh, it might not be a good fit.

Curious, we have double checked our SRAR (submitted 9/6 confirmed 9/23 everything received and complete) filled out optional essay, etc., besides going TO are there common mistakes that are sometimes made that slow down the application? I do appreciate you mentioning somewhere in a post that getting accepted earlier doesn’t mean anything other than bragging rights but is it truly common to be waiting 12+ weeks for EA? Just curious if anyone else out there has also been waiting this long.

i’m in the same boat, submitted 9/11 and confirmed with rep everything is good, my guess is there are just so many applications that it takes a while for them to go through every one, but it is definitely frustrating!

No :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Not sure what’s been the ‘tradition’ at PSU - but many state universities have either mid or end of January for EA.

At this point I believe the majority have not been notified.

Just wait for two more weeks. Good news will come your way :grinning:

We’ve been waiting longer with strong test scores, high stats, full IB diploma curriculum, great essays/ECs (doubt they are even looking at them).
Nothing about this process makes any sense to me at least.
Easier said than done to be patient with this frustrating process.

It’s only frustrating because you choose to be frustrated by it. They promised you a response by 12/24 - they are working their way through tens of thousands of applications essentially randomly they will get to yours. Have patience and choose not to be frustrated at least until they miss the deadline they gave you.

Nope - still there. I might have to stop checking and just wait for the letter to appear!
