Penn State Early Action for Fall 2025 Admissions

HDFS sounds like a better plan then and with Summer start you do have a shot.
Guessing you would go with that concentration?

Seconding this - in fact, Berks is never full so if he decided that he wants to switch to Berks he could do so at any time - in other words, no risk wrt Berks at all.

It’s a bit tighter after March for Altoona/Behrend/Harrisburg, wrt dorms&certain majors but it’d still give him time, if he were admitted to UP, to switch back and secure housing.

Yes, this was the one that seemed most aligned. I’m not sure if I have to make the concentration choice now or later.

Do you think it would be less competitive than Bio behavioral Health?

My goal now is to get into UP this summer.

Yes (BBH = lots of premed/pre health students)

Thank you so much! I’m going to submit the reconsideration in my portal today and also send an email to admissions providing a concise summary of my request as well as some of my “why’s”. I hope to be able to come back to this forum with good news to share. Regardless of the outcome, I just want to let you know how much I appreciate all of the guidance you’ve provided.

He would have to spend a semester as a LHR major and get only As/Bs, then ask to switch to DUS.
Students can only become Smeal majors if they are in DUS (or Smeal) as premajors, and must complete a set of pre-reqs, some of which are weed out (calc, micro econ
) with a 3.2+ GPA. They have till 2nd semester sophomore year to have the required classes& grades. The Smeal Entrance to Major requirements are the most onerous of all UP majors.:dizzy_face: However, they make sense: hard to imagine a business major who couldn’t pass 1st year Economics, 1st year math, 1st year English

To keep that pivot open, first semester he should take English 15/30H, SCM200, (Psych 100), World Language 2 or 3, Econ 104.

In LionPATH, under communications, when we click Undergraduate Admit, letter shows up but mostly blacked out, with only generic message below shows up, anyone experiencing the same situation? Application portal says application details can’t be retrieved

By choosing Penn State, you not only join a globally recognized university with the resources of twenty campuses located through the state, but you also benefit from an academic community that will connect you to the expertise, research, and resources you need to accomplish your life and career goals. Thank you all again especially @MYOS1634 for your help we resubmitted this morning - fingers crossed but she is better this morning. If this doesn’t work she will move on as she has been accepted to some other great schools with a lot of merit. :heartpulse: I do believe you should love the one that loves you back!!

Last question does anyone know how long it takes for a reconsideration? They say 6-8 weeks on the portal so they may be waiting to see the RD talent pool first? Has anyone on here requested it and heard back?

A few days to a couple weeks. I would assume January except for the Santa Claus lucky!

Hi - I was looking for some advice for my son. We made a strategy mistake and applied directly to Smeal. He was offered another campus but wants UP. We are going to ask for reconsideration at UP and are trying to determine what to ask for.

He is OOS, 1330 SAT, 3.85 UW, 5 APs, and 2 Honors. His interests are in Business and Kinesiology. I know they are very different ;-). He doesn’t really want to do Summer.

Any thoughts on what to try for in reconsideration that would also meet his interests? Also, do you need to call or write a letter or do you just apply for reconsideration through the link in MYPSU?

Thank you!

So if you reach out to change your major, do they just update it and you don’t lose your place in line? Or does it set you back to RD? Thanks.

my daughter was notified EA acceptance into college of IST three-ish weeks ago; is it too late for her to do the litany of essays for Schreyer and submit for honors?

He should ask for reconsideration in DUS at UP. You can only get into Smeal either through being a Smeal pre l-major or from DUS. If you look through this forum, you will find lots of tips on doing that.

What about Agribusiness?

If he wants Smeal and only Smeal, then he should ask for DUS.

At this point, she cannot apply to be an honor scholar as a freshman. However, she can apply to Schreyer after April 15 of her freshman year to be considered as a sophomore.

For those with the know how of Smeal Business, could you please help a bit.
I know that both Smeal Pre-major as well as DUS have equal opportunities to qualify for Smeal major at the end of Sophomore year.
But, is there a difference in the following during first 2 years:-

  1. Internship opportunities
  2. Access to Smeal academic resources
  3. Study abroad opportunities
  4. Do Smeal pre-majors take classes in Smeal college, and DUS students in DUS college?

Please excuse my ignorance if these questions sound silly. First kid going to college in the US, so trying to learn. Guilty of making a lot of mistakes during kid’s high school by incorrectly assuming how admissions work here. Trying to be better prepared now. Don’t have a private admission counselor for guidance. Thanks in advance for the help.
