Does anyone have any tips on successfully applying and becoming a Lion Ambassador at one of the 20 campuses? I recently applied, and was brought in to interview at Brandywine but was then turned down. Could it at all be the reason I was denied because I am still a first semester freshman? How involved are they looking for their prospective applicants typically supposed to be? How much do they take into consideration,if you are in like 5 clubs but have no job,or have a job and only involved in 2 or 3 clubs? Since they are supposed to be very well rounded students, who are also very involved.
lion ambassadors are usually not first semester freshmen. At UP they have to be sophomores or juniors with at least 24 credits and a 2.4 GPA. I’m not sure how it is at the commonwealth campuses, but I’d think it would be similar. I’m not sure why they would bring you in unless they didn’t realize you were a first semester freshman.
Lion Ambassadors are supposed to be mentors and a reliable source of information for new students. That’s impossible to do when you are a new student yourself.
I know for a fact that they have hired freshmen to become Lion Ambassadors at Brandywine because when I was at Accepted Student Day,our tour guide was a second semester freshman. However I do not know if this is the case for all freshmen they hire. From my research, it looks as though they only have this process occur during the fall semester of each year. So like you said @jlhpsu which is a good point,I don’t know why they would hire first semester freshmen either, However it looks as though they hire at least a few freshmen every year, not sure whether first or second semester.
@Andrew2018 You have some good questions - and very specific to Brandywine. Why don’t you reach out to the Advisor? You can ask nicely, “I recently applied to… and was disappointed. Could you provide some individual feedback or assistance?” Go meet with them and have a conversation. They will understand you are truly interested and maybe you get the answers you would like -
@Andrew2018 Also, Lion Ambassadors are not “hired” - they are a student organization. At UP, there are also Lion Scouts - both do tours. Lion Scouts can be freshman I think, but not Lion Ambassadors. Again, the Advisor can guide you -
Lion ambassadors can be freshman. I was on a tour at Penn State Altoona given by two second semester freshman.
