Penn State Sandusky scandal

I am trying to figure out if Schulz merely “oversaw” the university police in an administrative capacity, but was not actually a police officer…in which case the 2002 shower rape was not even handled by campus police. The director of University police is Steve Shelow

It is not uncommon for abuse victims to deny the abuse …

Gary C. Schulz’s name is still on the Penn State 2008-2013 Strategic Plan as Senior VP of Finance and Business. I guess he had not heard of Risk Management? I hope they have a really great insurance policy, because I sure don’t want the school to go bankrupt. Though with all of the alleged cover-ups by Schulz himself any insurance policy is probably VOID.

Chocoholic: Thank you! This is one this everyone seems to overlook. He did not report it to the police. Just like the story that is going around about Curley telling him that it had been reported to CPS. There is nothing reported that indicated that at all.

Some posters referred to the “Grand Experiment” that is Penn State. I think most of can agree that that has been a failure in the end

MaterMia- if the victim testifies there was no abuse you and I may feel it is an instance of
It is not uncommon for abuse victims to deny the abuse … but that will help Sandusky on at least that charge.

Yes agreed. It will help … and it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. (The entire situation with his adopted son - and what I’ve read - gives me the shudders as well.)

Anyone who works with victims of any kind of abuse - know the denial can go on forever, for lots of reasons.

Suppose that a blameless man innocently showered naked with young boys. (Work with me here, he was used to communal showers, he thought it was more efficient if everyone showered at the same time, whatever.) I could possibly buy that, if that blameless man hadn’t been told by the police to stop showering with boys because it made him look like a child molester. He wouldn’t keep hugging young boys and soaping up their backs. What non-child-molester would continue these showers?

I just saw an interview with Sardusky’s attorney. He said “There was no rape in the showers, Jerry and the boy were just taking a shower and horsing around. It is what jocks do” OMG that this attorney or Sardusky think showering with a young boy is okay and OMG that his attorney even made this statement! Anderson Cooper was just talking about this interview.

Also heard a report today on MSNBC that Sardusky has been collecting $60,000 a year retirement for the past 9 years. Also the VP of finance (Schultz?) got a $450,000 one time payment and now collects $20,000 per month. Oh my!

Thanks for clarifying, cartera. I just heard the lead in to the Sandusky interview about to be aired on my news channel referred to as “startling”, and that is the adjective you used above. You are spot on with that one!

I can’t believe he is saying a word. Don’t mean to turn this thread at all political, but it kinda reminds me of the early Weiner interviews where he claimed someone hacked into his twitter account. Sandusky is even less believable. He needs to be quiet.

He was C-R-E-E-P-Y when Costa asked Sandusky whether he was sexually attracted to young boys. His attorney, on the other hand, was quite good.

Yes, he hemmed and hawed a bit when asked if he was sexually attracted to young boys. Who doesn’t say and emphatic “no” before the question is even done?

ugh. There is just no way I could watch that creep being interviewed. Rather see the more inspirational interview on the other channel (well I’m assuming it will be inspiring, I DVR’d it but I’m too tired to watch it tonight).

Makes me feel kinda nauseous just reading about it.

Sexually?..ummm…hmmmm…I love young people.

Creepy

swimcats, it was a phoner so you never see him live. His atty was in the studio.

still ugh.

I couldn’t be a reporter - or an attorney. Not if I had to talk with a creep like that without him exactly what I thought of him.

Doesn’t sound like he did himself any favors.

Are you talking about the Gabby Giffords interview? I cried all the way through it. Very inspiring.

I texted my daughter that I was watching the Gabby Giffords interview and spell check turned it to “Shabby Godforsaken.” That better described the Sandusky interview.

Oh God, Shabby Godforsaken, that’s so funny and so appropriate for the Sandusky interview. I’ve sent some strange messages because of texting spell checker.

Yes I was talking about her interview. Looking forward to watching it tomorrow.

I am disgusted by the conduct of not only Sandusky but the entire school.

Don’t get me wrong, that guy is a sick old pervert who gets a kick out of taking advantage if young boys (40 is the number I heard).

But the entire administration of PSU mirrors the despicable behavior of the Roman Catholic Church. The people who attempt to cover these things up should be held just as accountable as the one(s) doing the molesting.

My heart goes out to those poor kids affected and their families

You can’t make this stuff up. When Sandusky’s lawyer, Joseph Amendola, was 49, he impregnated a 16-year old girl:

The whole thing is sickening.

And it still bothers me that an accused serial child molestor/rapist was let out on comparatively low bail without even an electronic bracelet, by a judge who should have recused herself given her volunteer work with Sandusky’s organization. Talk about an appearance of impropriety.

I just saw that report too Donna.
Looks like he found the perfect lawyer, cut from the same cloth!!!

"“At the time, I didn’t know the extent of the relationship,” said Mary’s mother, Janet.

Amendola seemed more like Mary’s “mentor,” she described the relationship between her teenage daughter and a man in his late 40s."
