Penn State Sandusky scandal

Yes, it’s the headline on Yahoo News. No details. Is this good?

I was just looking at the list of charges (#4643) and I don’t understand one huge difference. Why are these charges State, not Federal? Would an offender have to go over statelines, like conduct this in several states to make the case Federal? And, if that’s the case, didn’t S. take one of his victims to the Rose Bowl and assault him there?

My experience as a prosecutor would lead me to believe that this is a guilty verdict.

Is it typical to have jurors give a decision this late at night? (I’m sorry if this has already been discussed.)

The online sources say that no verdict will be announced until court is adjourned. Reading of the verdicts will start at 9:45 p.m. Eastern time according to ABC online, but it will not be covered live.

A late night verdict is not unusual. The judge will ask the jury if they are getting close to a decision and want to continue or if they want to stop for the night.

romani-if the jury is sequestered as this one was, they can deliberate into the night. They will generally give the judge some sort of indication that they are willing to work a few hours or so after dinner if they are making progress.

Within seconds of hearing the verdict behind closed doors, it will be tweeted and texted to the public.

Gotcha, thanks MD and mo3b.

GUILTY of 45 of the 48 counts. Without hearing the details, I’m guessing that the Mike McQ. testimony without a victim was troublesome to the jurors.

45 out of 48. Wow. That’s just incomprehensible how someone could do that. Wow.

Thank goodness.

I’m very relieved.

I’m honestly halfway surprised he made it to the car without getting shot. He is going to live in hell for the rest of his life. Child abusers are the lowest of the low in prison.

God bless each and every one of the victims. I hope this will be the beginning of their healing process.

^ Me, too. I was very surprised he didn’t have a bullet-proof vest on when he left the courthouse. I have seen that in less incendiary cases. So glad he will be unable to hurt any other children.

I won’t be surprised if he gets killed in jail or commits suicide. I could cry for what these boys endured for an almighty football team. I just wish joe pa lived to see the verdict and heard all the testimony. May anyone who turned their heads and kept quiet live with that guilt forever.

Thank goodness!

Convicted on 45 out of 48 counts! This has restored my faith in the justice system, good riddance to the scum of the earth…serves him right & confirms Paterno and Penn State covered it all up. No wonder he checked out early.
