Penn State Sandusky scandal

Let’s hope the NCAA, Board of Trustees, or somebody decides to impose a time-out on Penn State football. That may give people an opportunity to understand the cultural problem and start dealing with it. The school would end up better as a result.

SMU received NCAA’s “death penalty” in 1987. The SMU football program never recovered, but the school itself is doing fine. SMU football players at the time were able to transfer with no loss of eligibility, so there is no real concern with innocents being hurt.

Not to make light of SMU’s violations but compared to what PSU’s top administrators knew and allowed to happen for 14 years, the NCAA needs to hand down the “death penalty” on PSU football.

I think five years of no football, so there is no player or student who remembers JoePa firsthand, would be the right move. And cancellation of all pensions, payments, and what-have-you to JoePa and family, and the three others, and an attempt to recoup JoePa’s buyout.

I certainly hope the new legislation is passed that takes Sandusky’s pension away.

About Jay Paterno referring to his father as Joe Paterno: perhaps that’s what he called him at home.

I just heard on MSNBC that Sandusky wrote a book called “Touched” about how to find/groom victims. That sounds unbelievable, but this whole case sounds unbelievable.

I just heard on the news that Curley issued a statement, much like Jay Paterno’s – the Freeh report is one-sided and doesn’t tell the whole story. He said McQueary never told him of Sandusky’s abuse of the boy in the shower and it will all come out in court.

I guess he figures if they can’t prove it, it didn’t happen.

The Freeh report does not tell the whole story. Unfortunately, we will never know what all those men discussed behind closed doors. They are lucky for that,IMO.

This is incorrect. The book “Touched” is essentially an autobiography written by Sandusky. It is not a how to book. Perhaps MSNBC was discussing the irony of the title of the book.

one sided. yes, the truthful side.

I think a more appropriate gesture would be to wear black to the game but not go in - to have a student section boycott and go tear down the statue while whatever boosters remain watch the game. They could make some news that might compete for airtime with what was going on inside the stadium.

Considering the Freeh’s investigation found evidence that Curley knew about Sandusky dating back to 1997. It is irrelevant what he claims McQ did or did not tell him in 2002.

You would think Curley, just once, would make a statement expressing concern for the victims versus trying to cover his butt.

All along I couldn’t stand how they hid behind the McQueary didn’t tell me bs. But now to continue with that line of defense is just outrageous.

It was their friggin job to ask exactly what was seen.

As Tututaxi said, the Freeh investigation showed Curley knew prior to the 2001 incident.

How dare they insult the intelligence of everyone to question this investigation.

Yeah he will convince a jury and judge that the Freeh report was mistaken…based on HIS own report of reality.

And this would help the victims of this tragedy and help to educate the public and raise awareness about child abuse…how? Doesn’t really seem like a very positive activity.

I wonder if Sandusky will be called as a witness in the perjury case, if it goes to trial?

I read that Sandusky reportedly told Curley he would give him the name of the victim McQueary saw but that Curley said he didn’t want to know. As sick as it seems, I wonder if Sandusky was too stupid to lie a la his interviews.

Anybody else notice how all the guys making statements are standing in front of a black curtain, behind a black-draped podium, and are wearing charcoal suits? It is all over the national news. Watching NBC coverage now.

Board member quote:" We are deeply ashamed."

I agree that what SMU did to earn the death penalty pales in comparison to this. Time for it to be visited up on Penn State.

To those who think that Penn State censored the report release on ONE TV on campus:

“It’s hard to believe that these people could be this dense.” Couldn’t agree more, LasMa.

I said on here many times - Joe Paterno is a pathetic, hypocritical loser who held power and knew everything. He died before his reputation could but he’s in hell now
