Penn State Sandusky scandal

^

The NCAA made it pretty clear the money will be going to foundations across the country that deal with child/sexual abuse. Not sure where you got the idea that NCAA is lining their pockets with the $60m from.

Damn…death penalty would have been less harsh.

paris - the 60 Million was ONE YEAR of revenue from PSU football. The funds will be used to fight child sexual abuse and support those organizations whom are doing good works in this particular area.

BRAVO NCAA!!

I had mixed feelings about the death penalty. I could see it being a good or bad thing for many different reasons. I am really glad to see that NCAA did think about the current and future students AND athletes and the well being of the college as a whole. I do believe that they tried to punish the admin and the football program, and tried to minimize the punishment to others. There will definitely be some pain felt by all, but not what it could have been.

It was clearly explained during the press conference that the funds will go to organizations all over the nation that work to help victims of child sexual abuse and those that work to prevent it.

Seriously, mtaking away the wins from Paterno means NOTHING…so the record books show no wins, but so what…a fine of 60 million is a start, but PSUnhad revenue of 112 million in 2010,primarily from the football program…the alumni have donated multiples of the fine in the past few years…it should have been a fine ,a 2 year ban of the football program, and the other small items the NCAA did

When does Spanier,Curly and Schultz find their way to the pokey?

This may be a case of be careful what you wish for. Many may regret trading one year w/o FB for

I don’t believe the NCAA that they will be giving this money to all these groups. Who is going to monitor them to make sure that do what they are saying now?

They are going to line their pockects with this money.

Someone please tell me how vacating games means anything?

Paterno will no longer be listed as having won all those games, blah, blah, blah, but there will likley be a side note within his bio,etc saying he REALLY did win those games but due to a conspiracy, the NCAA took them away…whoopty doo

I"m particularly impressed by the NCAA reasoning about maintaining the football program at PSU. It’s true that if you want to change the culture of a school so that football is not central to its focus, you must have a football program and show how you treat it appropriately. Overall, I thought the penalties made sense and fit the problem.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Paternos react to this one.

Philly, it means that Joe Pa does not have the most wins anymore.

The top officials had oversight of more than just football.

All PhDs back to 1998 should be vacated too.

Sanctions will end by 2016. So, give another 4 years, Penn State football should bounce back!!
2020 to be exact if everything goes smoothly…

Folks,

This is MUCH WORST than what happened at the University of Miami…and the Hurricanes never recovered.

15 scholarships??..Penn State has been transformed to a Division-II program as far as football for the next 10 years.

Paris,i know that…but i"ll bet if you go to Wikipedia in a week, it will say that he HAD the mostbwins and they were taken away by scandal…so what

Watch the alumni donate enough money to cover the fine, probably can be done in a year

This will end up hurting the entire sports program at Penn State… Football pays for everything…

Why does keeping a tarnished football program impress you? It just shows that football is too important to colleges in this country. Nothing impressive about that. I bet the dozens of countries that beat us every year in academics aren’t impressed.
