I will admit my naivete and college recruiting, just going thru it with d and her correspondence with coaches.

However with that said, do know of some shenanigans with college coaches and running youth programs. Things we were told are not allowed and what we see being done at times is suspect.

Re the child abuse conference. How will they address the question of what to do with administrators who are found to have covered up abuse? Especially when the cover up goes all the way to the president?

I hope they look at legal issues, not just mental health, counselling, etc.

Does anybody know what courses Spanier is teaching this semester?

I am registered for this conference along with another coworker. I have attended many similar trainings over the years - this one looks great and I’m really looking forward to it. I hope the purpose of the conference is NOT to sit there and hash out how to punish people. That would not be productive in any way. However, I agree that an understanding of the legal system and how it works is important to all who work with children. The problem of child abuse is in every community - focus needs to be on prevention and intervention. It’s time everyone intervenes to make sure all children are protected.

After the Catholic church abuse scandal, anyone involved with children in any capacity, coaching teaching etc. can not do so until they take the above training course, not sure if its country wide, just know in our diocese it is mandated.

What’s tiresome is a faculty that doesn’t have the guts to stand up to its deeply flawed institution, at absolutely no risk to themselves, and continues to walk to work in a library named after a pedophile enabler.

I’m sure having hundreds of boys abused, enabled by an entire series of child sex trafficking enablers, grew tiresome after a time, and simply became business as usual.

Just from what I have read…the PSU uniforms have never featured the names of the players. Sort of a “team spirit, we are all one team” thing. And the uniforms haven’t really ever changed (I could be wrong, and I suppose the actual fabrics have changed). Most colleges do change/update the uniforms from time to time, but PSU has not. So adding the ribbons and the names is a big deal.
