Penn State UP Engineering- Collaborative?

I know all Penn State Engineering majors are actually enrolled as PreEngineering and need to meet certain requirements to get into individual majors.

Does this create a more cut throat environment? Or are the first 2 years Collaborative?

@Longhaul as long as you meet the ETM requirements and GPA for controlled majors you can declare that major. If all students meet those requirements then all are admitted. To answer your question it’s not you a cutthroat environment.

@Longhaul that’s at most state engineering schools… my son needs a 2.7 at Penn state and if he can’t get that then well I want my 12 year investment back! Lol… at Michigan state my eldest needs a 2.9… it gets worse for finance majors they need a 3.5… we just came back from Penn state and must say I am impressed by their facilities for engineering

Thank you. @airway1 2.7 is not bad. I had read 3.4 in the past, but that was 6 yrs ago.

It’s 3.2 for biomedical and chemical but the rest below 3.0… @Longhaul

@airway1 The link you posted is outdated. It is for students entering PSU in 2015. The current entrance to major requirements are found in the Undergraduate Bulletin under each major. There have been some changes/updates. GPA needed for some majors is now higher.

Ok so I’m wrong and I think this is the correct link but in some majors the gpa requirement is lower now … good luck

@airway1 The 2nd link you posted is newer than the 1st one, but see the 1st and 2nd sentences at the top of the page. For more recent students (entering Fall 2018 or later), information on entrance to major requirements is in the Undergraduate Bulletin.

@kidzncatz , am I correct that the undergraduate bulletin can only be accessed by enrolled students ?

Here you go the current Undergraduate Bulletin

Lol I give up! I’m too old for this! Anyways I think my kid needs A 2.6 or 2.7 so I’m fine with him going to Penn state

Many look like 3.2

Getting back to the collaboration question - I would suggest contacting current students on a PSU Facebook page. I will state that this is the last day of classes and finals start Monday so you may not get a quick response.
