Penn State vs University of Michigan

Hey!
I am currently a freshman at Penn State hoping to transfer to UMich next year. The reasons I don’t like PSU are as follows:

academics aren’t very challenging

Low diversity

University Park is in the middle of nowhere; almost too sheltered from the outside world

If you aren’t an Engineering, Science, or MTheatre student, you just came to party

I feel no pride in the school because of the entire ‘Paterno’ thing

The school almost seems like a cult instead of a proud student body

I would be transferring to the Performing Arts Technology program. I like the contemporary combination of composing and different art/media forms, as opposed to Penn State’s more classical theory-oriented training. Does anyone have any insight with either program?

My worries are that UMich is going to be very similar to PSU, except more difficult and academically stressful.

I’ll also be joining the UMich ROTC program to pay for the school, so if anyone has any experience with that, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks!!

Michigan’s student body can hardly be described as a “cult”… the student body is huge like PSU’s, but the diversity is definitely a lot higher. There’s definitely a lot of football pride on Saturday’s during football season, but football discussion hardly consumed most conversations on campus, so I don’t think you need to worry about a cult culture at Michigan.

Thanks! How about Ann Arbor? Are there a lot of things to do there? Is it like a college town or a town that’s near a college(if you get what I mean)?

College town
