Penn State vs Virginia Tech vs Syracuse Graphic Design

Hi all!

I am an incoming international freshman for the class of 2021 and I recently got accepted to Penn State, Virginia Tech and Syracuse (all without scholarship or grants).

I am going for Graphic Design, but I am not sure how the programs are comparing to each other.

Any information (e.g. facilities, internships, studying abroad options, etc.) will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thankss!!!

What’s your net cost at each?
Basically all three are great so you should visit and pick the cheapest among the two you prefer.

virginia tech is a POLYTECH. Very heavily dedicated to engineering, computer science, architecture, biotech/bioengineering, etc. Graphic design? doesn’t strike me as a top major at this school, I haven’t looked into it, could be wrong but…think about what each of the schools is known for where they focus.

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University is the complete name. It is a full university with over 100 majors including Graphic Design in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies. Only 30% of the school is engineering. All are great schools. I would suggest visiting and looking at the cost. Syracuse is probably going to be more expensive than VTech or Penn State.

Thank you for giving me some insights. Penn State and Virginia Tech are both around $30,000 per year, while Syracuse is around $45,000. That is why I am leaning more towards either Penn State and Virginia Tech.

I am trying to find more information about the schools, but there aren’t a lot of forums that provide information about these graphic design programs.

The difference between all three is not so significant that it’s worth the cost differential, so I’d cross out Syracuse indeed.
Between Penn State and Virginia Tech: compare the requirements for the major.
In terms of environment, both are in college towns but within a half day’s drive to big cities on the Eastern seaboard. There may be a greater variety of majors at Penn state but not by much.
Have you visited, spent an overnight, attending classes (if not : one freshman English class, one intro class to our major).

@MYOS1634 Thanks for suggesting! However, there is a really, really slight chance that I can visit both schools in a month since I go to a boarding school in Ohio. Guess I just have to dig deeper online:((

Doesn’t your boarding school give seniors days to visit colleges? Most do. Megabus goes to State College PA, so from Ohio it could be arranged. Contact admissions AND your college, see if a student could host you overnight, if they could plan an itinerary for you. Vtech may be a bit harder to organize as the bus routes from Ohio maybe more complicated.
Did you get into the honors college at either one? If so, contact them to plan your visit.

@MYOS1634 Thanks!! I will contact them and arrange a visit to Penn State, at least, ASAP!!
