Penn State

So I got this from Penn State:

Thank you for applying to Penn State. We have carefully evaluated your academic history and it appears you have not completed all of the necessary coursework for admission to your selected program. However, you still may be able to pursue a Penn State degree and we would like to help you explore your options.

Our programs have different academic requirements, which means if you do not qualify for one program, you may qualify for a different program of interest.

Please review and follow the below listed steps so we can best discuss your options with you.

Visit admissions.psu.edu/apply/requirements to review the list of high school course requirements for all of Penn State’s academic colleges.
Consider other academic programs for which you are academically qualified.
Contact admissions@psu.edu if you would like to be considered for a different academic program, or if you believe the information submitted on your academic record or current schedule was inaccurate.
After you complete the above listed steps, we will review your updated academic history and academic preferences, and if possible, reconsider your application based on this new information.

Thank you again for your interest in Penn State. We hope to hear from you soon.

Do I still have a chance of getting into the school if I change my program or should I just forget about it. I’m worried

What major did you apply for? What this e mail is saying is that you do not have the coursework in high school required to apply to that major. For example, not the right math for engineering, etc…

It does NOT mean you can’t get in. Do what they’ve said. Call and ask to be reconsidered for DUS (undecided). You can figure out your major when you are there and you can get to most any major from DUS.

I applied to accounting

ok, so you applied to Smeal college which is the hardest college within Penn State to get into. Somehow you do not have the requirements to apply to Smeal. The best bet is to call or e mail and ask to be reconsidered to DUS. You can work towards Smeal from there. For reference, the requirements to apply to Smeal are:

Math

Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry plus one-half unit of Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, or Calculus

English
4 units, including 1 unit each in composition and literature

Social Studies/Art/Humanities

3 units in any combination of social studies, arts, or humanities

Science 3 units

World Language 2 units*
