penn to duke?

would it be a good idea to attend penn frosh year and then transfer to duke?

well if you really want to attend duke but can’t get in… then sure go ahead and attend upenn. It would look better if you attend upenn and transfer to duke than a comm college and then transfer

What’s wrong with Penn?

in reality id rather attend duke for four years but i think itd be good if i went to a college in a city rather than stay in the same place, and just get the experience of upenn and then come back home to go to duke

not so much to address ur question, jessica, but i really dont understand why everyone assumes that transfer from an ivy or tier 1 to another ivy or tier 1 is easier than transfer from a crappy 4 year school or a cc- its just not true. as long as ur taking the hardest courses available at the school, and the school actually offers things like honors classes and stuff, you have a good shot. fact is that someone transferring from a 2 year school has a MUCH more compelling reason to transfer than someone coming from a tier 1 or ivy.

that being said, definetly go to upenn, that way, if you dont get in to duke as a transfer, ur still at one of the top 5 schools in the country. however, if ud rather be at duke and have the stats to go there (which i assume u do), apply there as a freshman and go there, dont take the chance on transfer admission.

Duke is just as good a Penn.

Jessica, it makes no sense to do this. I went to Columbia freshman year and got into Duke as a transfer (I chose Dartmouth, much easier to assimilate into as a transfer). A big reason I didnt even really consider Duke in the end was because 1) they place all transfers in Trent, a really crappy dorm in the middle of nowhere 2) The life on the freshman (EasT) Campus really is critical to getting to know people and get absorbed into Duke life. I really dont think the negatives are worth the positives, especially leaving good friends. That said, you might like Penn enough to not transfer.
