Penn v. Amherst

I’ve narrowed down my college choices to these two schools, which is troubling because they are so disparate in their pros and cons. I’m leaning toward Penn, but I was wondering if a current student could give me some perspective as to his/her experience.

I really like the idea of a large campus with a vibrant atmosphere, which is something I feel will not be as well served at Amherst. But the idea of an LAC with extremely small classes and really close student-professor relations can’t be understated.

So I guess what I need to know is whether or not Penn combines the best of both worlds, and has small classes and close student:teacher relationships.

Any other advice would be more than welcome.

Hey, check out this thread about Penn vs. Williams:

Obviously, Williams and Amherst are different schools - but their strengths and weaknesses compared to Penn should be very similar, and you may find this helpful.

Otherwise, to answer your question: Penn definitely allows you to cultivate personal relationships with teachers/professors, and nearly all faculty members are extremely friendly and happy to speak with students.

Thanks! That’s really helpful. :)
