Penn vs Cornell (Literature/ PolSci)

Hello :)

How would you guys compare Penn’s and Cornell’s Literature and Political Science/ International Relations programs? In terms of competitiveness, course load, prestige, internship opportunities, teaching quality, school culture etc.

Some basic stats:
Female, Asian, will take A levels at the end of this year
Sat score: 2170 (740 M, 680 CR, 750 W)
Sat subject test scores: Lit 710, Math II 710

PS. I don’t intend to apply to Wharton though, would that significantly increase my chances of being admitted?

Sorry if this is not specific enough! I’m new to CC haha. But do give feedback and thanks in advance :)

There two different schools- you would have to see which one just feels right to you. In terms of prestige there both around the same; i wouldn’t say go to one or the other because of that. There both excellent in those fields and you said A levels not sure what those are but if your an international student you may want to raise your sat grades a bit. If your asian, unhooked, and an international … your looking at the 3 “no no’s” in terms of applications…

Oh I forgot to add, i’m choosing Penn/ Cornell for reach, my targets are the UCs, Emory and NYU. The A levels are like the GCSE/ GCEs taken by students following the Brit education system at the end of high school :)

Sorry but what do you mean by “unhooked”?

Also I’m most probably not applying for finaid

Why don’t you just apply to both? It doesn’t hurt. We can help you making the choice after you are admitted. “unhooked” means that you have no special connection (knows a professor at Penn, your parent attended Penn, did an internship at Penn, et cetera)

Being international and not applying for fin aid will help but not much considering that a lot of int students are applying to the Ivies and schools have only a limited amount of places to offer to int students. In fact, most int. students I know at Penn are freaking rich.

I say you have very solid chances at UCLA (they need money real bad) and NYU so just relax and apply to all your reaches. May the force be with you.

Repeat. International students are freaking rich. I am still bitter that I went with that international classmate to Giorgio on Pine and the person told me “can we go to a more decent, a real restaurant, next time?” Jeez. lol. sorry for the whining.

Hi mixter thanks for the encouragement!

Haha oh I was trying to decide between Penn/Cornell as my last reach school (don’t want to apply to too many reaches :/) because I’m already applying to Stanford and Columbia as reaches also (fat hope I know, I know), but I’ve done my research and I really like the schools.

But yesterday I was trawling the web and for some reason i keep reading about people not being very happy at CU, so i might switch that out with P and C now, not sure though argh

But thank you anyway :)

^I heartily encourage you not to make application decisions based on what you might read as individual posts on the Internet (including this website). Read properly researched books and articles. Most important, visit the campuses if you can.
