Penn's Essay Question Released

Hello,

I just go an email from Penn with the essay question, what do you all think about it?

Considering both the specific undergraduate school or program to which you are applying and the broader University of Pennsylvania community, what academic, research, and/or extracurricular paths do you see yourself exploring at Penn?

Also appears on their website:
Penn Admissions: Apply Online or Download Application Forms

I thought there was an autobiography supplement ???

This might be only one part of the supplement, so I guess we'll have to wait till tomorrow to see if there is one.

I think it's kind of a cliche topic. I mean, it's basically just a "Why Penn" topic put in more formal and lengthy terms. But, hey, I'm not complaining; this is way easier to write than some of their previous supplement essay topics.

@redjohn: the topic you're referring to is usually used as the prompt for the optional essay. We'll have to see tommorrow if it remains the same.

On the supplement that they released in July the page 217 question was eliminated. hopefully this stays the same lol

Just a verbose Why Penn lol.

Yeah, I much prefer this to the autobiography question.

I guess they got tired of getting emails about the 'Why Penn' question and decided to give a bit more guidance.

I just checked the website...says pushed out to mid-august???

Disagreement, they changed it again they've been constantly pushing the date forward, from July 1st than to the 15th than to August 1st now mid August! This is so frustrating.

yea i got my essay supplement 2 days ago via e-mail I was confused by the dates but i'll probably call them on monday to get it straightened out

Admittedly, I'm glad that they removed the page 217 question. I don't possess any creative and/or imaginative bone in my body, and though the essay was optional, I felt inclined/pressured to produce something on paper.

are there always 2 essays in the supplement or is this one probably the only one??

Why is everyone saying the autobiography was replaced/eliminated. Where are you getting this from?

When the full supplement is released I'm sure the autobiography will be there.

Yeah, I think it'll be there...its been there for the past few years so I don't see why they would change it this year.

because, it is not a good question lol. (i just don't like it) but @ red john- they sent out e-mails with the question on them. and the question is on the website where the full supplement was SUPPOSED to be available

To everyone who does not like the Page 217 question, they really do mean it when they say "truly optional". I know plenty of people who got in without submitting a page 217. However, it does give you an opportunity to present yourself in an interesting light which may not otherwise be present in your application, so if you can do it really well there's no reason not to write one. But If you feel that you cannot write a good one, you really don't have to.

I know. Complaining just helps me get things done lol.

Well, I got the Penn supplement about a month ago and the optional question isn't there for sure.

I was just waiting for verification from Dean Furda's e-mail before I was able to confirm this. The essay question on the e-mail, word for word, matches the question that I have on my supplement form.
