Today I heard something (and it hasn’t been the first time) about how they were doing construction of the Evans roof a while ago. I knew they were doing something up there, but I heard they did it so people couldn’t jump off the building. Is it true that there have been suicides off there? That would be really creepy because Evans has such a depressing vibe.

It’s definitely true that there have been suicides off there; many, in fact. But I thought the construction of the panel to prevent that finished a while back, no?

I didn’t even know students could access Evans’ roof. If they did, it wouldn’t surprise me that they would choose Evans as their location, as saddening as that is. What a dreary place.

at least you get a nice view before going out.

^thats awful but…Lololololol

knowing evans, you could die of boredom walking up 10 flights of stairs with gray walls surrounding you.

Wow I didn’t realize suicides happened at Evans. Hmm how common are suicides at Berkeley? I never really heard of it being an issue at all.

One day last year I was exploring Cory hall and found this weird stairwell built in a sort of ‘square spiral’ where you can look straight down the middle of it all from the top floor and see the ground floor. The railing is really sketch to boot.

I reached the top floor and was trying to take a picture straight down, so i had to lean over the railing a bit. an administration person in the building who was in the stairwell stopped, stared at me, and then said “what are you doing?”
i was all “just taking pics”
she was all “thought you might jump…”

i was like… "lol…?
"

rude, imo…

@diivio: the stories of evans suicides are pretty notorious

@batman: the other day i walked up the stair from the 1st floor to the 9th floor.
i was in one stairwell and reached the 7th floor or something and it just ended, i died a little inside when i had to ‘transfer’ stairwells. ■■■.

^ People actually use the stairs to get that high in evans? o_O

^ not really, but after walking up the first 4 floors, i felt like i had to walk the rest or else it was all just a waste. it’s too painful to ignore sunk costs.

hahaha tell that to Robinson xP

discuss about this in your UGBA class. Is it worth the effort to walk up 10 flights of stairs in Evans?

and then walk out of the classroom like a baus.

I’ve heard they go out the windows… if that answers anything… maybe not.

I’ve heard of a case where one student even committed suicide in a closet on the 9th floor of Evans.

It’s common. Suicides happen. With many students come many suicides.

When I was at Berkeley someone had just jumped off Evans on my way to class. My friend also knew someone who knew this girl who hung herself in the International House. I also heard rumors that someone had jumped off the bell tower before too, but then not sure if that one is real.
