Pepperdine if Business and IB
ASU if CS
I would follow the advice of people who know a lot about investment banking and would make sure to understand and request the qualifications of those whose advice I was receiving. Itâs called due diligence in banking. Good luck.
Your mom is your best sounding board and knows you best.
I mean regardless of that the reason Iâm asking for cs specifically is because I know that they both have great business programs but I felt as though cs was the tie breaker. The main reason I also wanted to double major was because my goal with ib was to also develop software eventually to progress the IB industry.
Did you see the program I posted from ASU related to Investment banking? Not sure if one can get in after the fact but is something like that of interest if you could?
Yeah to me ASU seems to be the better option. I am also getting vastly better price where as I would need to work to lower the Pepperdine cost.
I admire your goal and believe your mother that you would be a fit. I also believe she might be able to help prepare you for and get some interviews - which does not hurt.
More recently, banks have opened up the schools they will interview from. Handshake also allows for the facilitation of resumes from non-target schools. My guess is neither of your schools are targets for the top banks, but I do not know that for sure, and it changes from year-to-year. I have worked with bankers my whole life, and they are most typically top 20 college types with 3.8âs or higher and once had very high SATâs. Early career-types tend to have the skills you described. My opinon is CS will not be the easiest way to get the GPA you need to get into banking, but you should do what you love. Finally, I have started 4 PE-backed companies with software components and I appreciate that you want to improve things in a single space. That is often why software gets built.
Good luck.
I am not saying ASU is better. Thatâs a program they listed. You should ask Pepperdine about their program or path, etc. I didnât see anything posted but that doesnât mean they donât have a track record.
I think ASU is a better option as well.
I donât know if youâre aware but itâs really difficult to get in-state tuition in California public universities. You didnât ask about a public in-state university, you asked about a private one.
Your tuition, at Pepperdine, is not going to change because your family moves to California. Pepperdine is a private Christian college. You have to go to Chapel; it has a religious requirements.
If youâre OK with that, and the fact that you will be paying a high tuition for four years, at Pepperdine, then go for Pepperdine. Your familyâs move to California is not going to decrease your tuition and fees at Pepperdine, unless you plan to commute and work part time.
Also the price of housing, in Southern California, is insane and thatâs if you can find a place to purchase. Rentals are even more expensive. I donât see how youâre going to save any money in purchasing or renting a house in California in order to attend a private university where the price is going to continue to go up. Itâs not a public school, were you aware of that?
A lot of people are holding onto their homes, so the there is a very limited inventory of homes, such that prices have dramatically increased for a new buyers.
I dont understand your comment to me at all. I recommended the OP consider the differences between the two schools (ex. size, location, religious affiliation, etc.) and - assuming they are both comfortably affordable- choose the best fit. Personally I would not factor any interest in IB into the college decision (as those jobs are few and far between) nor did I suggest the OP should.
Debate between posters is not allowed on CC so letâs focus on the OP.
miscommunication literally 3x
- missed the ib at end of post
- remembered his post from a while back about colleges
- wires crossed
all good.
