How much does U of M spend per-pupil?

On what? …

Well, I’ve read that most LACs spend double the amount for each of the student it charges tuition. So I would like to know how comparable UMich is to these LACs.

Those numbers just take the total school budget which includes dorms, food, sports and everything else and divide it by the number of students. Excluding the hospital income the UM budget is around $2.5 Billion. With about 40,000 students total the average is $62,500. Whatever that’s worth.

One must remember that with 40,000 students (25,000 undergrads and 15,000 graduate), Michigan benefits of Economies of scale to a degree small LACs with fewer than 5,000 cannot.

Very few universities spend more than $90,000/student, so Michigan spends quite a bit, especially when consider its size and the benefits that come from Economies of scale.

well alexandre, with size also comes diseconomies of scale :)
