Perfect CR but super low GPA-- Penn?

Hi everyone, I was wondering what my chances are at an Ivy like Penn or Columbia, or another top school. My stats and list are below:

SAT: 2340 (800 CR/770 Writing/770 Math)
SAT II: 760 Math IC, 740 BioE, 740 Literature (taking US and World History in May, and Latin in June)
GPA: 3.61 W, top 12% of class (dip sophomore year bc of med reasons and hospitalization, will be explained by GC). I have straight As for one sem of Junior year.
AP classes: Biology, English (both), Latin, Statistics, Psychology, Comp Gov)
School type: Average Massachusetts public, sends ~8 to Ivies each year
Demographics: Middle class Asian girl, hardest classes taken

ECs:
Debate (9-12): Nationally ranked
Human Rights Club: (9-12) President and Secretary
Political volunteer: (9-12) Help out in local, state, and national elections for Democrats
Tutoring: (10-12) Founded school wide program that organizes tutoring for kids from kids

Prob NM Commended, anticipating great recs (I have awesome relationships with all my teachers) and hopefully a killer essay.

What are my chances at:
Penn CAS Early Decision
Harvard
Columbia
Swarthmore
Tufts
GW Elliot School of Int Affairs
Carleton

Thanks!!!

This is a tough one. You’re SATs and SAT IIs say competitive at Penn and Columbia, but your GPA and class rank say no. The Ivies are very grade and class rank conscious. Now, if they buy your explanation for the dip in sophomore year, you’d certainly be in the running at Penn and probably Columbia, as long as your GPA with your sophomore grades excluded are strong (that is, 3.8 or above). Harvard, well, Harvard is a reach for everyone, so you shouldn’t count on getting in there.

As for the other schools on your list, GW should be no problem, and Tufts, Swathmore, and Carleton are matches. Figure at least a 50% chance at each of these three schools.

I’m pretty sure you will get into GW. Tufts and Carleton are somewhat matches.

Swat, Penn, and Columbia may be hard with your GPA (all have under 20% acceptance rates).

penn, columbia, harvard are hard for ur gpa, plus ur asian. good luck tho

a 3.61 GPA and a top 12% rank are not “super low” on this planet. relax. you’ll be fine. don’t listen to people who agree with you that your gpa is low or will significantly hurt you. seriously.

GW Elliot could be a match, the rest - flip a coin. you’re such a strong applicant that you really don’t have any big reach schools -you could easily get in or not get in. you probably have the same chance for penn ed as if you did it regular, sorry. but really, you’re a really strong applicant, you’ll probably write amazing essays, you’ll get into great schools, you’ll be perfectly fine. just make sure to have some reliable safeties/matches, i.e. brandeis maybe? other northeastern LACs like bates or colby? just a school that you like that’s not as hard to get into as the other ones. good luck! :-D

…I personally think that you would be better served applying regular decision so you can excentuate and embellish on some of the things @ the beginning of your senior year and have your counselor write some fab updates to your work…just one opinion though
