Perfect SATs - horrible everything else. Chance me!

I’m one of those rare instances. I have pwned nearly every single College Board administered test, but my grades are not up to part. I feel like I’ve blown my shot at anywhere decent. What do you think?

Does your high school typically send many people to top schools? What’s your grade trend?

I show an upward trend, definitely. I also show how much I excel in the humanities. I live on Long Island and the top 20 usually go to 7-year accelerated med programs. Most kids stay within the state education system, but there are also a handful of kids who go to BU. There are probably 3 attending the ivy-league; it’s nothing special.

I wouldn’t say “horrible everything else!” Is the GPA weighted? If not, I’d say you’re in pretty good shape. Great volunteer work - it really sets you apart. The only thing I’d say is the ECs are a little weak. Still, the volunteering and SAT scores really shine through. You’re in NYU, Northeastern, CMU, and BU, probably BC. Northwestern and Georgetown may be a little tougher, but I wouldn’t be surprised if you get in. Good luck!

It is a weighted GPA :(. I also plan on double majoring in economics and psychology.

Hmmm, what’s your unweighted?

What school do you go to? Sorry if I’m being off topic, I’m just curious since I live in Long Island NY as well. :P

You’ll def get in to BU and probably NE, CM and NYU. I think your grades/rank are a little lower than NW and Gtown usually take, but those test scores may save you.

88 unweighted :(

Do you think that the low grades suggest that I’m a lazy student since my standardized test scores are so high?

Maybe- is that the case? It will be up to your guidance counselor to dispel that notion in the admissions offices.

If you want my opinion apply to some ivies but also apply to some really good state schools like Texas University of washington and Penn State chance me back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1082453-chance-me-universitys.html

It’s not that I’m lazy - it’s more that I like to focus on what I like and not care for the other subjects.

Georgetown seems like it would be the only reach, your SAT is amazing! I think that they would like to see something in your essay or app that explains why you were able to do so well on your SAT but not as well in school. Good luck!

bump bump bump bump bump bump

Schools now adays seem to look more at ECs in addition to test scores. Your lack of strong ECs makes it seem like you can’t bring any new perspective to the university [I’m not saying you can’t, I’m saying that’s what it looks like on your app] Your clubs are very basic and ones that a lot of people are in. With that in mind, I think NYU, NU, and Gtown are definitely all reaches.

I thought that was really good better than mine, yet I am not going to any or trying ivy :P

Your test scores really ARE awesome. You probably will make into almost all the colleges you mentioned.

Did you apply to any of the Ivy League schools?

I can guarantee that you’ll be accepted into at least four of those schools, with at least one of them ranked in the top 25. And that’s worst case scenario.
