…but I only have a 92 GPA unweighted. Will the SAT score be enough to swing me into a college like NYU or WU at Saint Louis?

For those colleges, the score will give you a GREAT boost. Your GPA will be evaluated on the conext of your school. What’s your rank?

I go to a small school, only about 180 kids in my class. I’m around 30, if I recall correctly.

The problem with ah high SAT/low GPA is that it sends the appearance of an unmotivated student. Figure out how to dispel that notion in your application.

That would be good enough for those universities. If the rest of your application is good too, I can tell you have huge chances of acceptance at both of them, congratulations.

Btw: Middle 50% Freshmen’s SAT score at NYU is 2010.

I let family stuff get to me and my grades dropped…gah. Really sucks to look back on things and know you could’ve done better.

Again, try to get that family context across in the application. Maybe the counselor letter can refer to it; it sounds less like whining than if you do it.

But congrats on the great SAT; it clearly helps more than hurts.

wulphy: NYU is a safety for you, but WashU is not. YOu are above the 75% in SAT for WashU, but below the 50% for GPA. Your success with WashU will depend on the adcom connecting with your essay, and seeing the value you bring to campus. It also helps muchly at WashU to have shown legitimate interest in their school by visiting and interviewing. They (as does NU, Hopkins, etc.) get sick of kids who are clearly not that interested in anything distinctive about their school, who are really targeting Top 10, and applying “just in case” b/c they’re ranked in the 10-20 band.
