Perfect son now insufferable

Why are people so against having kids back home? I have not had experience yet, but I do not see any problem, what is that I do not see? S was gone to college, never came back. Having his kids for 3 weeks in a summer (they go to camp, though, we both work full time and they love camp) is a treat for us, nice feeling of not having perfectly clean house, makes it “warmer” in a house. D is back every summer, still in college, we love to have her back also.

Even though I started this thread about recent trials with my senior, I most certainly look forward to his return in the summers, if that is what works out. The situation might be troublesome if he returns as a last resort (no internship or job elsewhere) and not because he wants to.

On a related note - things have been better around here, thanks to the many understanding comments everyone posted. I am loosening up, laughing more, and giving hugs - that seems to keep the mood lighter for my S. He admits that he is reverting to his terrible twos! And to the poster who chastised me for the “perfect” label - I was just exaggerating the differences between then and now. He was never perfect - and he is never completely insufferable:)

oh centraleagle–glad to hear it. humor is good…

A small technique I use when one of my kids is being “insufferable” perfectly or not ; )

I roll my eyes and say, “omg, high school seniors” “uuch, college students” its certainly kidding on the square, but a gentle reminder that they are being annoying, but that I get WHY are being annoying and still love them…perfectly.

Haha, rolling eyes reminds me of a D story. She’s had a rough time with her roommate…they have a full apartment and the roomie doesn’t do any chores according to D. After one argument, she called me to gripe and said, “Oh my God, Mom, she rolled her eyes at me!!!”

She was not impressed when H and I laughed uncontrollably over the phone at the teen who in our family was most notorious for eye-rolling.

that’s cute Centh. yes I think my eye roll gets my kids bc I’m pulling it on them, in good humor…

A friend of mine has a college-age daughter who is doing a semester in Spain. They got Skype to keep in touch. So what happened? The first conversation on Skype, the daughter rolled her eyes at her parents! Her dad said, “You know we can SEE you, right?” The trans-Atlantic eye-roll! Now they just “talk” via Instant Messaging instead. lol

Too funny!!!
