If you were getting gum surgery, and might need bone grafts, would you choose cadaver or bovine, and why?
I think I know which I will choose, but I’d be interested in other points of view.

I’d probably choose cadaver as I think I’d prefer to stay in the same species if possible.
I recently had a gum graft (from the palate to the gum) and it wasn’t nearly as bad as I had feared, and the result is quite good. I’m hoping it means those particular teeth won’t fall out.
Gum grafts are not bad at all. The palate heals quickly and does feel like a pizza burn. Unless a completely synthetic bone graft material becomes available, I will not have a bone graft.
VH–I think gum graft is next up. Sigh. Glad to hear that wasn’t bad.
No, it wasn’t bad at all. The periodontist numbed me like crazy and then did her thing. She put what she referred to as a “dressing” over both spots – it was sort of rubbery, like Silly Putty. That stayed in place for ~five or so days, until the spots were starting to heal. The first day was the worst, but I just took a long nap and ate soup. By day five, I could easily chew on the non-operated side. Took a few Tylenol and that’s really all I needed.
I think I was back in eating business sooner than VH describes! I just love food.
Oh, I agree. I didn’t mention my diet from Day Two until Day Five!
