Personal Manager vs. Regular Business Manager

I’m majoring in business at my community college and I was wondering if the tasks and skill sets for a personal manager (like a band manager for example, don’t know if personal manager is a real term) is any different or same from a regular business manager (like for a company).

Today, I was on the phone with my GF talking about our future careers or something when I jokingly said that I could become her own personal belly dancing manager. Like she can do performances for like shows and parties or something along those lines, since she practices belly dancing from time to time. If I have the skills, maybe I can schedule performances for her.

However, it’s likely that I’m not really planning to do this, I was wondering what’s the difference for a personal manager who works in the entertainment industry than a regular business manager who works for a company. Do they use the same concepts and principles that I learn in a business major?

The correct term is talent manager or agent, and there are similarities and differences between being a talent manager and a corporate manager. Both must manage people, money, and time well, but the specific responsibilities and nature of the work will be different in a lot of ways.

Ya know, I just realized that at the company I currently work with one of the department managers used to be a band manager and used that experience to get the job (she wanted to put down some roots instead of being on the road all the time).

I see. Thanks for the insight!
