Personal motto

I thought of two others:

My grandfather who was a minister used to do a “demonstration” for small children, putting uncooked rice and shelled walnuts into a cigar box (in the olden days!). Then he would close the lid and shake the box gently back and forth. When he opened it, the walnuts were on the top. He used to say, “The big ones come to the top.” My grandmother always said that the demonstration showed “The nuts come to the top.”

I am also very fond of Esse, quam videri (To be, rather than to seem).

“Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be” - Lincoln

“The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time” - James Taylor. I like this one because it relieves me of the “what if” thoughts - did I do enough in my career/marriage etc. I am enjoying my days that that is not a small thing!

“This too shall pass” - my mom kept saying that to me when my babies were little. Hated it then, but I appreciate it now

Do, or do not. There is no try-Yoda

I like this quote in hard times. A friend with cancer had it over his bed in the hospital. Obviously it cannot be used to frame someone who attempts something and fails. It’s more about getting out of your own way (pushing through) and doing things until they become successful ( or you know you have done your VERY best).

I loved the “this too shall pass” especially with babies and little kids–it reminded me that not only the hard times pass but to enjoy every precious moment also.

My mother frequently said “this too shall pass.” Love your take on it, @gouf78.

@quantmech I enjoyed that you quoted philippians. I have read that Chapter several times this week.

What you do daily you do fully, unless you do it deeply, which isn’t often.
