<p>Well this is for UG summer research but it may apply to the personal statement for grad school if asked in the prompt.</p>
<p>Well part of the prompt asks about educational and career goals. Would it hurt my chances if my educational goal wasn’t to pursue a Phd and my career goal wasn’t to pursue a life in research?</p>
<p>Well, I don’t feel that there is much need for Phd’s in structural/civil engineering outside academia so I’d like to pursue a masters then work for a design firm and maybe start my own, or become a consultant one day…i really don’t know…I’d consider pursuing a Phd down the road if I felt that I needed too… </p>
<p>Although these are my career goals I feel an essay about ones desire to pursue a Phd and a career commited to research would be much more enticing.</p>
