I have written two drafts for my personal statement. One is more casual and the other is more professional. My question is does it really matter which one I would use? The professional one is a bit dry and I feel it doesn’t grab someones attention as easily as my casual statement. The casual statement shows my personality more. Would schools look down on me for making my personal statement more casual? Any ideas or comments?

The personal statement is designed to show your personality as the name implies. Therefore, all else being held constant, the casual paper that shows who you are and is more interesting may be better. However, you may also want to consider things that may make your “casual” statement seem slightly more professional. That would be needed if the paper is simply too informal. I would be inclined to say that the casual paper may be the best. Do they both deal with the same topic?
