I’m currently trying to write a personal statement, and I’m wondering how formal or informal colleges like your writing to be. Any thoughts?

<p>Yes, but an informal story, or a formal story? 
After all, friend’s parents, uncles, and aunts come with varying degress of propriety.</p>
<p>As if talking to someone you’re comfortable with. </p>
<p>One of the biggest generic problems I’ve seen with application is stilted, overly formal, calculated to impress writing. Of <em>course</em> you’re trying to impress…it’s just that it only really works if it appears that you’re not.</p>
<p>And of course such details as spelling should be perfect…pay attention to the structure of the piece too.</p>
