Perspectives on Science reply?

Has anybody here not received a reply for Perspectives on Science? It’s July 14 and I haven’t received any notification at all.

My daughter applied and hasn’t heard anything either. July 14 was supposed to be the latest date you’d be notified.

My D’s letter came in the mail on Friday. She was not accepted. The letter noted that there were hundreds of applicants, only 60 spots. She was disappointed, but noted that there are some terrific Freshman Seminar options for potential science majors. The one on nanotechnology really charged her!

my roommate took nanotech last year and really enjoyed it

interestedmom, do you live far from Connecticut? It could be that the notification letter from Yale just hasn’t arrived. Yale does its best to send the letters out so that they’ll arrive by July 14, but you know how the postal service can be. The students who have joined the Facebook group for Perspectives on Science acceptees so far all hail from New York, Maryland, Washington D.C., etc., so I’m guessing that if you live on the west coast or in Canada, you’ll get a reply sometime this upcoming week. If not, you can always contact freshman.affairs@yale.edu/email and demand a reply.

One of my friends from the Class of 2010 was rejected from Perspectives on Science before July 14, and he’s an international student. Thus, Yale definitely notifies students even if they’ve been rejected. International students receive e-mails, while I think students from the United States and Canada receive snail mail because the letters can arrive on time and snail mail is just much more formal.

Quiltguru, did the letter say how many applicants there were (a specific number)? Just curious…

No, just that there were many.

Ginny, you are right. We live on the west coast. The letter was not mailed until the 12th and it arrived on the 15th. She was accepted. I’m very pleased that she was, but I agree that Yale has other wonderful options for students interested in science and doing research.
