<p>I had a friend who used to pump going back and forth to work in her car. No kidding - she plugged her adapter into the cigarette lighter, hooked up, and off she went. Or so she used to tell us - I’ve never met anyone else who was quite so capable of multi-tasking.</p>

<p>A couple of other friends used to nurse while they were passengers in a car, with babies seated next to them in carseats. They were more flexible than I was (and had more skin elasticity, too). :D</p>

<p>There are strictly monitored milk banks for sick infants, which is certainly a great cause. I can’t imagine donating milk to make ice cream, though.</p>

With my 1st child, I barely had enough to nurse him (which might explain why he kept me up all night every night nursing). With the 2nd, I had ample (kept better hydrated) & nursed until she lost interest at 18 months. Really can’t imagine making ice cream with it and don’t know why young infants should do anything other than drink formula or breast milk anyway. By they time they’re old enough to eat ice cream, breast milk isn’t such a crucial part of their diets.</p>

<p>I too would be very cautious about using breast milk from anyone else, as I’m sure you can pass viruses and other things baby would not benefit from if you’re not careful.</p>

<p>I don’t think Peta’s purpose is to feed ice cream to babies. They are about saving the cows not babies. Though do I wonder what they imagine will happen to all the milk cows if they get replaced by humans.</p>

So which boob is Ben and which is Jerry?? I remember when I was in college I was wearing a t-shirt I’d gotten when visiting a friend at Brown. It had “BROWN” printed in the upper right hand corner of the shirt (like where a pocket would go on a shirt). So, a friend sees me walking towards him and when I get about 5 yards away, he yells out rather loudly "what color is the OTHER one??</p>

<p>In our area, there’s a milk bank where women can donate extra breast milk. A friend of mine had to do a lot of pumping while her baby was in the hospital, and it turned out that she consistently had extra. So she got on the milk bank roster and donated for quite awhile - they gave her the containers, I think, and she froze it in batches.</p>

<p>Sorry swimcatsmom to provide another mental image. While I don’t think I’m friends with frazzled1, I am guilty of doing this. It’s the only way we could move/get from Dallas to Chicago when D2 was five months old; until she was over one, she cried absolutely every time we put her in a car seat, even if it was for five blocks. It literally saved all our ‘frazzled’ nerves (no pun intended). And she was happy as a clam.</p>

<p>I don’t think breastmilk has enough fat for cheese ((don’t ask how/why someone mentioned that to me) so I wonder if it would even work for ice cream. Anyway, it’s an awful idea. Maybe they just want us to imagine the plight of cows. Soy and rice ice cream taste fine imo.</p>

<p>I had the industrial pump, also… Rented it while S was in the NICU for ten days. Felt like a cow, also. Happy to do it because I hated being 80 miles away from the hospital where he was. Visited him every day and was elated when they actually let me nurse him…</p>
