petition to take class without prerequisite

Is it possible to petition to take a class without getting the required grade in a prereq? I’m a psych pre-major and due to a medical problem, I got a C- in 100A and the requirment to take 100B is to get a C in 100A. I’d like to wait until Spring and take a different professor’s 100A class. I’d like to take 100B next quarter.

Well it depends. If the class is part of you prereqs for your major then you SHOULD NOT move forward with 100B unless you talk to a dept. counselor. Once you move on in a sequence (e.g. 100A, 100B…), you cannot retake the previous class in that sequence. So in your case, if you take 100B and do well, you will not be able to go back and retake 100A for a better grade.

IMPORTANT: You want to make sure that the class is not part of your major prereq. If it is and you decide to move forward with 100B, and then realize that your major requires a certain GPA or letter grade to move forward, you have a problem. I faced a similar issue and was almost dropped from my major! So please talk to a counselor and do intensive research on this. Never trust forums with these kinds of issues!
