where do i stand…what could i do do appeal more to admissions officers…would like out of state suggestions

Penn State doesn’t have a pharm. major, as far as I know. If you want to get into the University Park campus at PSU (and depending on the school you apply to), you will need to bring your math SAT score up a little. Admissions seemed to be quite competitive this year. Otherwise, you look great for the first group.

Not sure about your reaches.

You might want to look at Northeastern in Boston. My neighbor was very happy with their 0-6 pharmacy program. Also, the University of New England in Maine will be opening a new pharmacy school next year and will be offering a pre-pharm program. Work on your SAT math score to maximize your opportunities. Good luck.

you don’t stand a chance at any of your dreams unless you get up your SATS tons ! i’d say your best bet for pharmacy is duquesne

might wanna check out URI- fantastic pharmacy program, extremely well respected in the northeast

Univ of the Sciences in Phila.0-6 pharm D. You are competitive and they have a M-F ratio that may work in your favor for admission.

alright, well what can i do to increase admission chances (besides obviously pulling my math sat scores up)…any other schools in or pref out of state that id have a shot at?

Why would you want to pay OOS tuition for a pharm major?

ValleyView: I believe that the following will help you:

(1) You need a list of accredited pharmacy programs:

http://www.acpe-accredit.org/students/programs.asp

(2) Go into the website at each college you are considering, and make sure you have a clear understanding of whether or not the college admits students DIRECTLY into their Pharmacy program right out of high school. For example: SUNY Buffalo admits students to their Pharmacy program at the end of the sophomore year of college. On the other hand, Albany College of Pharmacy accepts students directly into their Pharmacy program right out of high school.

YOU DEFINITELY DO NOT WANT TO GO TO A COLLEGE WHERE THEY DO NOT ADMIT YOU RIGHT OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL!!! It’s virtually impossible to gain admission to a Pharmacy school as a transfer student, so you don’t want to find out your fate at the end of your sophomore year of college. Way too risky!!!

(3) Be sure to take the ACT this spring. Also, re-take the SAT, being sure to prepare intensely for the Math section.

Most pharmacy programs to not care about extracurriculars. Without question, they are most focused on your academic performance in high school (particularly math and science), as well as SAT or ACT scores.
That’s the reality of the situation.

If you want to be a pharmacist, it makes absolutely no difference where you graduate from. The demand for pharmacists is tremendous, and employers are thrilled just to fill existing openings. They don’t care where you went to school!

St. John’s, Duquesne, Wilkes, University of the Sciences in Philly not too bad to get into. The larger state universities are quite competitive, simply because of the cost factor.

In your senior year, get your applications in by October because many Pharmacy programs fill up early!

i think it would be a little more difficult for you to gain acceptance into pharm programs because your math sat scores are so low… pharm is heavily math and science based. pitt, rutgers, and maryland have really competitive programs. but you should try some safeties like albany, univ of sciences in pa, suny buffalo, etc.

oh… and as far as increasing your chances of admission… take the hardest courses you can take during senior year. colleges look at that too.

Your SAT scores are low…and your rank is really high and all…but it seems there’s a lot of grade inflation.

pitt* - ???
ohio st* - In
duquense - In
wilkes - In
rutgers - Rejected
uconn - Rejected
penn st - In (since you’re in-state)
st john’s - In
purdue - ???
maryland - Rejected

michigan* - um or michigan state?
unc-chap hill* - Rejected
colgate - ???
virginia - if you mean uva, Rejected

I hate to see mean by saying you’ll get rejected from all those schools, but seriously…your SAT scores aren’t very competitive.

And it’s not true that pharmacy is heavily math-based. But pharm schools do tend to emphasize math scores because of their crazy logic that people who are good at math are also good at science.

clove, you’re not an admissions officer so don’t be so confident to say that someone will get rejected.

valleyview, i think your sats (especially math) are a bit too low so work on raising them. other than that, your gpa and extracurriculars looks good.

USNWR did a pharmacy (Pharm. D?) ranking awhile back, but can’t seem to find it right now.

Major in biology, biochemistry, or chemistry for a BS. Then apply to pharmacy school for your Pharm. D.
