Pharmacist specilization

How does a pharmacist specilize in a certain field, such as drugs for HIV or other diseases. Does one choose what they wish to specilize in during pharmacy school and then work towards that aspect of pharmacy in graduate school?

*specialization

specialize*

Pharmacist specialize as my topic name would be incorrect.

Agreed. However, “How does a pharmacist specialize in a certain field” would correct.
Anyways, don’t mind me. I’m just giving you a hard time to amuse myself.

*would be correct

:P

picky picky…

hmmn, you might want to check out Pfizer’s career page about different types of pharmacists. Biographies of real life people who work in those fields are included. In other words, look at their career path and see how they got into their respective fields.
I think you would just start taking classes that deal with the field you specialize in i.e. if you specialize in infectious diseases, then you would take classes that deal with antibiotics etc…

After you receive your PharmD, you look for something called “residency” and “fellowship”. I believe there are about 4-6 different specializations approved by the Board (State Board of Pharmacy). You are specialized when you have received “Board Certification” for that specific field. Not all PharmD/RPh are Board Certified.
