I got into an ivy and a 0-6 pharmacy program. Although in other threads I assert myself as a pre-med student, I am actually interested in pharmacy, but I just find it easier to go by the more understood pre-med title. If I go to Brown I’d have to do 4 years undergrad then apply to pharmacy school while the program I got into at a relatively unknown university offers direct entrance into pharmacy school without applying again. Any advice in this very difficult situation?
What university has the pharmacy program? If you really want pre-med you can always start out at the 0-6 and then switch over. Unless you are very wealthy, going to brown and then pharmacy school will be very expensive.
What matters for you as a potential pharmacist, is whether graduates of that direct admit program get jobs. Period. That the name of the university isn’t automatically recognizable here at CC is immaterial.
If you are truly committed to pharmacy as a career path, and the direct admit program is affordable for you, take that acceptance and don’t look back. There is no guarantee whatsoever that you would make it through 4 years at Brown with the grades/test scores/letters of recommendation/etc. to get into pharmacy school.
If you aren’t committed to pharmacy, you would like to explore other career pathways, and Brown is affordable, well then go to Brown.
It does sounds like an expensive proposition but you said elsewhere you can afford it. How interested are you in exploring and discovering a larger world of possibilities? Brown would be the place for that and a great place for doing your premed. If the cost is affordable. If you are eager to ensure your professional fastrack, then maybe the direct Pharm program is for you. You know yourself best. But I think Brown is a really special undergrad experience, my daughter truly found her direction there (and she was not lost), and not just for a prestige play.
Did you read all the pages in the Brown Health Career advising?

You seem to be posting a few places about this situation. What are your own thoughts and considerations? Your interests?
There are only 13 0-6 Pharmacy programs in the USA, nothing is obscure, which one did you get in? Rutgers has an excellent program.

If you are interested in premed, why would you apply for pharmd programs? You also could take that program and apply for md schools afterwards.
I got into the programs at Northeastern, Rutgers and St. John’s. I should think of how committed I am to pharmacy… most of what worries me is the job market for pharmacists currently but I guess if I’m passionate that shouldn’t deter me. Thanks everyone.
