<p>Would you take a class that was being taught by a non PHD? Highest degree earned in their perspective fields was only a masters.</p>
<p>I don’t think a PhD or lack of one is necessarily a cut and dried measure of ability and knowledge. Also, it would depend on the field and the setting. In fine arts an MFA is more than adequate. In performing arts maybe not even an MFA would be important. And if at a local public or community college the lack of a PhD might reflect ABD status (all but dissertation) so again not definitive measure of ability. So, not an absolute yes or no question.</p>
<p>For lower level math and foreign languages you don’t need a PhD to be good.</p>
