<p>What factors make one stand out as an applicant for a PhD in a business field? In sciences it is research, is business focused on work experience or should one be doing some sort of research?</p>

<p>I know for sciences the GRE is not as important as the research & publications. What do business adcoms emphasize in admissions?</p>

<p>Research is pretty much the key. A Ph.D in any field is about mastering the art and science of doing publishable research on that subject.</p>

<p>MBA programs care about work experience, but that’s an entirely different professional degree centered on practical applications.</p>
