<p>I am an international student in my second semester of masters program at the University of Florida in the field of Mechanical Engineering.</p>

<p>I plan on applying to the following schools for a PhD starting Fall 2013,</p>

<p>University of Maryland, College Park
Penn State, University Park
University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
Cornell</p>

<p>Now, all the above universities state a minimum of 4 required on the AWA section of GRE. I gave GRE in 2010 and had the following scores,</p>

<p>800Q, 550V, 3.5 AWA</p>

<p>My current GPA is 3.77/4
My undergraduate GPA was 8.2/10 (8.7/10 - Jr.+Sr. year)</p>

<p>I have an experience of 3 R&D based internships.</p>

<p>What I wanted to know primarily is, whether the 3.5 in AWA will actually hurt me in my admission’s process ? Should I think of re-taking the GRE ?</p>

<p>I’d retake it if they state that 4.0 is a requirement, but if you still fall short I’d still apply. I had a GPA below the required for my masters program, but good GRE scores, work/research experience, and strong LOR, and I got in no problem.</p>
