Another explanation: the company does not have a S&R clerk to handle incoming packages. It is cheaper for them to pay extra to the USPS for package storage than hiring someone to receive mail every day. Delivery of a package is included in the postage, but storage is an extra service, and I can see why there would be an extra charge - I pay extra to have a PO box.
And even if samples were delivered daily, they still would not be processed for a while due to batching. This is how most molecular labs operate.

Hmmm… I suppose thats a possibility. The packages are small so its surprising that the PO cant just deliver them to an office. And it didnt have a PO box on the address label that I recall. I just want the box not to be lost or squished at the PO, where its been sitting since Dec 7

jym, mail can be re-routed to a PO box upon request by the recipient. I would not worry about it being squished… As I said, DNA is pretty hard to destroy. :)

Sample officially lost. Lots of finger pointing. Neither PO nor the lab have it.

jym626, tried to send you a PM but your box is full.

Thanks, nrdsb4. I cleared some space.
This is rich. The guy I spoke to in the LA PO said that it wasnt in their facility (though he didnt look in the days’ bin of boxes that arrived) so it must have been picked up so he’d just mark it as delivered. Thats what he did and it now shows delivered. Total bull.

Wow. Sorry to hear that, jym. Holy cow, what a mess.

That is crap. I’d be very angry.

will they send u another kit?

If you can get your 99 dollars back, this might be a blessing in disguise.

It was a gift, so I doubt they’d send me the $ back. Well, now that the PO put down that they delivered it (DK if thats true or a lie) 23andme will probably have to take responsibility for not having it. I sent them 2 messages through their website but- SURPRISE, I haven’t heard a word back.

Jym, mine was “delivered” on 11/23, but not “received” until 12/13. Things are going at a snail’s pace there, probably due to larger than normal number of kits to process, holidays, and switching their lab to accommodate the new V4 chip. Just check the “December waiting thread” in their community section and join in the misery.

Our results started coming in on Christmas Eve. The first 4 tests took exactly 1 month from processing start date. Still waiting on the last test (started processing mid Dec). First the Health info comes (if you can still get it) then it tells you it will be a while until you get Ancestry info but I got it the next day.

Very interesting so far. Health info looks good. Genetic ancestry info matches what we already knew of the family (German, Czech, Native American) plus new info. I’m hoping to find cousins to expand our family tree.

Mine was received at the facility on Dec 21 so I’m thinking I’ll get results around late January/early February.

My birthday is mid-late January so maybe I’ll be surprised and get a wonderful birthday present
lol

Mine is still “nowhere”

Mine left the Fedex office closest to me on 11/25. Still no info on whether it got to the 123 folks. I think it’s easier for me to ignore it rather than checking all the time.

Hadn’t looked again til someone bumped the thread. Just frustrating.

This is interesting and relevant:

<a href=“I Had My DNA Picture Taken, With Varying Results - The New York Times”>I Had My DNA Picture Taken, With Varying Results - The New York Times;

VH, very interesting.

“He added: If you want to spend money wisely to protect your health and you have a few hundred dollars, buy a scale, stand on it, and act accordingly.”

Yup. There should be also enough $$ left to get a pair of sturdy walking shoes. remember the infamous picture of the 2 dandelion plants from your middle school science textbook? Our genes are not 100% responsible for what we are - what we do with them and the environment make a huge impact.

Well, interesting update. Finally got a response to the email message I sent to 23andme through their “contact us” option on Dec 16/17 (when the PO claimed it had been delivered to the company probably back on Dec 8/9). The email I got yesterday says:
So I guess it was a good thing the postal worker fudged the tracking and claimed it was delivered Dec 17. Then this morning, gee, miracle of miracles, the very same day (I guess officially the “next” day since it came at 4 am) I got this from 23andme:

SO the spit has been found. And now we wait yet again…

I was previously finding this process amusing. Now its falling more on the “who cares” side…
