Anyone know what GPA is required to get Phi Beta Kappa at graduation?
I am sure it depends on whether you are AB or BSE since I believe a student would be considered top 10% within each of these areas. Princeton does not formally calculate GPA so I doubt there would be any official publications that would answer your question directly. I did find this on their website:
Phi Beta Kappa
The Phi Beta Kappa Society, founded in 1776 and the oldest of all national honorary scholastic societies, has a chapter at Princeton. Election to this chapter is based on scholastic standing and is open to candidates for the A.B. and B.S.E. degrees in their senior year. The chapter generally includes in its membership the highest-ranking tenth of each graduating class. A small group is elected in the fall of the senior year based on their academic record in the first three years; a larger group is elected at the end of the senior year and is inducted at a ceremony on Class Day.
“Princeton does not formally calculate GPA” … not sure I understand what you mean by this because they list the GPA on your transcript.
It’s top 10% by GPA regardless of BSE or AB, just wondering what that cutoff generally is.

My understanding is that your transcript would have letter grades, not GPA. My son’s grades are all listed by letter.
