Phi Thetta Kappa. Useful? Useless?

I got my invitation today. Is this thing any good? I heard computer science (and engineering) students shouldn’t care about EC’s because what they really care about is your Math and Physics grades.

I’ll have to pay like 70 dollars for this I believe. I’m not worrying about the fee but what do you guys think? If it’s an absolute joke I wont sign up for it.

Where do you want to transfer? Many schools have transfer scholarships for ptk members, that $70 could save you a couple thousand on tuition.

Thanks for replying. I want to transfer to UNC - CH

Join it. Membership in PTK is often a requirement for transfer scholarships at a number of nationally recognized schools.

Also, why do you want to go to UNC-CH for engineering?

I just joined it. The website they also give us an account for, collegefish.org, is showing me some scholerships but most are in some very unknown universities.

I’m going there for Computer Science (hopefully!) their computer science program is one of the best in the country (so I’ve heard). I live close to UNC as well and I love the campus/setting.

I’m a CC student, and I joined PTK. I’m not an ‘active’ member as such, but I figure it can’t hurt. Being in an honors society looks good. It’s true that transfer institutions are less concerned about EC’s, but something like PTK is a bit different than being president of the math club. It’s an honors society. It shows dedication.

They offer a lot of opportunities for scholarships, which is certainly a plus.
