We’ll be traveling to Philadelphia soon, staying near Penn. I’d like information as to how easy it is to move around from place to place without a car. I know Philly has good public transportation; how about taxis?
Thanks in advance!

There are plenty of taxis around Penn and it is easy to get around the city on the subway or cabs.

Very difficult to park, narrow streets to drive on can be a problem if you’re used to wide ones, TONS of taxis, creepy public transportation. Walk or taxi it!

It depends on where you’re going – if you provide more details (or PM me) I’ll be happy to offer suggestions. Overall, it’s a very walkable town.

I accompanied my son on an official visit last fall… and while I did not move around alone at night, I did take the subway on Sunday from the Radisson area down to Independence Hall… and then walked around all day… did some shopping too… walked back to Independence Hall area (John McCain was actually there that evening as I walked back!!) and took the subway back to the Radisson area around 5 or 6 pm… I took a taxi to campus and walked back… I found the city to be wonderful to visit and I am now trying to talk some girlfriends into a Philly weekend for our next trip together. The Radisson was affordable, I used a corporate discount… try AAA too…

I really liked the portraits at the Second Bank of the USA… all the original founding folks, not just men… really wonderful paintings, imo…

I usually drive into Philadelphia, park and then take public transportation or walk around. It’s an easy city to get around in. Have a great time, I think the weather is supposed to be good. If you get into Center City and the historical district the Phlash bus is fun to take: [Phlash :: gophila.com - The Official Visitor Site for Greater Philadelphia](http://www.gophila.com/c/things_to_do/211/itineraries_and_tours/428/tours/204/u/phlash/1303.html)

depending on where you are going, you probably can do all of it on public transit and walking. If there’s any time in your schedule for a Philly ‘hook up’ with cc’ers let me know. I’d certainly travel into center city (the other ‘cc’) to have lunch with you.

Gee, I don’t know why I thought you were coming this weekend, Marite. My comment about the weather must have seemed strange!

We should think about a meet-up in Philadelphia - what a good idea sue!

Thanks for the invite, Kathiep and Sueinphilly. And thanks for all the advice. H is taking it all under consideration as we draw up a schedule–still very much in the works.
