Philly Inquirer Article on SAT Importance

Today’s (11/9/08) Phildelphia Inquirer had the following SAT importance article.

[SAT still a tough student hurdle | Philadelphia Inquirer | 11/09/2008](http://www.philly.com/inquirer/front_page/20081109_SAT_still_a_tough_student_hurdle.html?viewAll=y)

That’s probably a good idea.

My opinion is that a 680 per section is outstanding as this represents at least a 650 per section given the 30 point range often associated with a good versus bad testing day for that particular student.
All prep students should aim for at least 600 per section if applying to highly competitive schools such as those ranked in the Top 35 to Top 60 Nat’l Universities or Top 20 to top 50 LACs.

She’s right, it’s completely unfair for a college to compare her score, with 3 tries and 3000 dollars of prep, with somebody who took the test cold (for whom it would be a far more legitimate assessment)

that girl just sounds like a worker bee who is angry that her SAT scores reveal her poor logical/analytical skills. for a girl who goes to a private school and had expensive prep, 620 CR is not Cornell material.

I took the test without any serious prep on the same day as Ali. I don’t go to a swanky private school and I may not have the same social capital. I did, however, beat the hell out of Ali’s score (and EC’s, etc). As far as I am concerned she is trying to compete from my spot at Cornell.

I don’t mean to rib her too much. But, honestly, with her resources shouldn’t her score be at least a hundred points higher?
