These 3 cities are home to 3 business schools i’d like to attend

my questions are
–is it safe to live in these 3 cities?
–are there lots of diversity in them?
–how cheap/expensive is standard of living?
–anything else i should know about these 3?

I live kind of near all of these cities so here’s my two cents…

in order of safety from lowest to highest
philly, pgh, ny
diversity… I think they’re all diverse… probably pgh the least though
ny obviously the most expensive… pgh probably the cheapest
pgh is a lot smaller than the other two… also not in the whole bos-wash part of the county like the other two… but pgh is definitely a great place… new york is amazing… philly is my least favorite… but that’s just me. you should go see them all and decide for yourself though… its only about 5 hours between pgh and philly… and philly and ny are pretty close

The question of safety has a lot to do with what neighborhood you’re in. If we’re talking about the UPenn campus, the campus itself and the immediate surroundings are a very bright and bustling place (although nearby neighborhoods are not the safest). There are other schools in Philly in very poor neighborhoods. I’d say New York is probably the safest overall, although it also obviously has its bad areas. Of course, living in any large city requires that you have the common sense to keep yourself safe at all times.

Philly and New York are probably the most diverse–in race, socioeconomic class, religion, everything.

Pittsburgh would most definitely be the cheapest city to live in. Philly is fairly expensive, but not as much as New York. If you’re able to budget your money well, you should be able to have a good quality of life in any of those cities though.

I’d say Philly and New York may give you an edge in obtaining internships and jobs, although it’s more than possible to be successful at any school.

Have you thought about Boston at all? It has tons of great schools and it’s a fairly safe city.

Philly-some places r great some not obviously…NYc…well most places in manhattan r safe but do the bronx is another story for some people im used to it i was just there today…my dad owns a company there most of his workers live there my dad grew up just blocks away from the Warehouse/offices are. My cousin lives there w/ my aunt and this cousin happens to be just very close w/ me by friendship and age(hes 4 month older). Those areas r deffinately not the safest there has been 2 break ins recently at my dads work and my cousins family is very poor(meaning not expensive to live there). I feel fine b/c ive been there hundreds of times but there also even more unsafe areas like near the zoo in bronx and the gardens(meaning right near fordham) u keep going past fordham u hit a pretty ghetto place

EVERY large city in this country has its safe spots and its less safe spots, Philadelphia and New York are no different. While Philly offers many opportunities for college students, I’d say NYC is far and above better in that area.

"There are other schools in Philly in very poor neighborhoods. "

Yeah? Temple is in a poorer neighborhood. So what? It’s plenty safe. Drexel and Penn are just as ‘ghetto’. Just dont be a moron and safety isnt a problem.

I didn’t mean “poor” in a necessarily economic sense, although that’s how it came out. There are areas in my own town where I wouldn’t want to walk at night. If you’re the type of person who likes to take long walks, explore the area surrounding campus, go out at night, etc., then maybe Temple, Drexel, Penn, etc., aren’t in your best interest. Then again, I’m not too much of a city person. Of course, there are thousands of students at all of these schools, and you don’t hear about those thousands of students all being victims of crimes.

New York…there is nothing like it. I lived in the Bronx, and its not like you think. I mean, in NYC all you need is common sense. Like some people who strool the streets at 3 am. It’s just common sense. In day I go to all parts in NYC except one in Brooklyn. In all the 5 boroughs, which are the Bronx, Brooklyn. Quenns, Manhattan, and Staten Island , there are good parts and bad parts. In the Bronx which people are scared of there is two of the best schools, such as Riverdale Country School and Horace Mann and the tuition there is like 29, 000 a year, trust me there is no ghetto there. The houses in that part of the Bronx cost up to like 4 million dollars…trust me no ghetto there and I can go on about all the good places in the Bronx. So do not listen to rumors about people being shot or mugged.

i can talk about pittsburgh. i think it is pretty safe, though obviously there are parts that are less safe but these are easily avoidable. i haven’t had much experience in other places but i know that pgh is a lot cheaper than boston. there’s a pretty good amount of diversity in certain areas, though there is a very low hispanic population. i love pittsburgh though, because i think it is not as hectic as a huge city and it has a strong, friendly community along with many resources and cultural strengths (though i’m sure new york has many more different opportunities for shows and cultural venues in general)
