Philosophy Departments at Different Universities

Hi, I am currently doing some research into different universities across the country with regards to their philosophy departments. I am interested in ethics and I am curious if there are any universities who have programs that actually send students into the surrounding community to “practice” ethics. Any ideas?

Antioch College (small, humanities-oriented college with a cooperative work program). Other colleges with co-op programs (for example: Drexel University, Northeastern University, University of Cincinnati, Rochester Institute of Technology) may offer ethics-related work opportunities for philosophy majors.

Carnegie Mellon University (philosophy department is oriented around applied, interdisciplinary areas and features a major in Ethics, History, and Public Policy). It looks like several other colleges offer degree programs with titles like “ethics,” “applied ethics,” or “applied philosophy.”

For what it’s worth, I’m actually a philosophy minor at Northeastern, and while the philosophy program overall doesn’t have as much depth as some other schools, I’ve found that their ethics offerings very pretty plentiful. Frankly, for a major I wouldn’t put it as a top choice, but if you’re looking to really get a practical program, as halcyon said, schools with strong co-op programs would be a great place to start looking.

Thank you both! @PengsPhils and @halcyonheather

I have heard UT Austin has a good ethics program, if this helps at all

It does thank you! @writer80
