Philosophy mayor uni in midwest as 5th option?

My teen D17 is from EU and she has been searching for her university choices and has a list of 4 possibles 2 private and 2 state uni
from the last 2 maybe 1 changes also to a private uni option. As is a lot to research and comprehend , she defined one state of the midwest as her choice. I ask/suggest to her maybe a 5th in another state in the midwest. One of the reasons she chose the 4 she has is they have more international students and also a higher rate of acceptancy for international students.
Any suggestions for this also preferably a college town near an airport with international flights if possible?

You are too vague. For instance:

  1. Do you (the parents) have any financial constraints?
  2. What are your daughter's grades like? The more specific, the better. Does she follow the French Bac, the German Abitur, the British system, the IB etc...?
  3. Has she taken the ACT/SAT? If so, how did she do?

From what you say, the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor is ideal (one of the top 3 or 4 Philosophy departments in the country, tiny classes in her major, the option of mixing things up with the PPE major, 2,000 undergraduate international students, great college town located only 30 kilometers from a major international airport etc…

However, Michigan is extremely selective and although it is cheaper than most private universities, it is still expensive and does not offer aid or scholarships to international students.

Try the University of Pittsburgh. It is a mid-sized public university in an interesting city, and it has one of the top philosophy departments in the world. Also, Pittsburgh is in western Pennsylvania…so although it is not IN the Midwest, it’s very close to it. And it has a major airport.

I wholeheartedly endorse @Alexandre 's response.

Michigan is a top university which provides the quintessential big American college experience.

What educational system does she follow, and her results within that system, has she taken the act/sat, what’s your budget?

Note that for an international student, 4 universities is a very very small number.

If money isn’t an issue, there are scads of nice options all over the midwest. Here is one group in Iowa: http://www.iowaprivatecollegeweek.org/

Update. She got 3 acceptances out of the 4 unis. Her first choice was a no but she knew chance very small too many applications for that one. The one she chose out of the 3 yes letters was based on uni quality, area and cost.

Thanks for the update! It’d be more helpful if you could give the universities’ names though.

UChicago was a no. Northwestern and Knox where slightly over budget. The one she will be going to she is very private about her things so she told me I am not allowed to mention the uni on any forum. I am at 58 yrs mom under a silence order. Hope you understand my predicament. EU teens are way different from USA kids.

What area in philosophy does your student want to study?

That’s ok - but at least the state would help. There are huge differences between Missouri, Minnesota, Ohio, Wyoming!!!
